Hi,
The lower trim is called a J-mold. You are correct, it is very similar to vinyl siding.
The J-mold is only fastened on the bottom by sheet metal screws. After you remove the screws from the bottom, the J mold is only held in place by the trim piece that it is inserted to. The factory does not use a "punch Lock" to create a locking tab.
Remove the screws and pull the J-mold straight down to remove.
You will see in my attached pic.. The top trim piece is similar to a vinyl siding "finish trim" molding. The only resistance may be from some random sealant mis-placed by the factory.

PS: If you did not see in my pic, the trim you see is with the J mold removed. This is what the top of the J mold panel slides into.
