2019-2024 FR3 and Georgetown Propane tank bracket failure recall just issued

Yeah, wow, that is WAY different than ours. When was your 2020 GT5 34H5 built? That information will be on a white sticker behind the driver in its upper right corner. Our is May 2019.

Got pictures of my propane tank brackets today. The welds look nothing like the inspection photos. My GT5 31R5 has a build date of 12/19/18. I dropped it off at the dealer this afternoon and they are going to look at it tomorrow.

Yeah, that's even less welds than we have. I don't see an obvious crack, though, which is good.

BTW, your profile still lists an FR3.

Those inspection "photos" are just CAD images. They're not even photos. What's the point of that? Show people good and bad pics so they know what to look for in case they have an imminent failure.

The whole process is puzzling. I think allowing owners to take and upload photos is a good thing because it can allow the reviewer to see if there is an impending failure or obvious defects. But that's about it.

Thanks for the reminder on my profile. I was also surprised to see what little weld is holding the brackets in place, but also agree that there doesn't appear to be any visible cracks. Hopefully we'll get the photos sent back to FR today.

Took pics and sent in to F/R They called the next day and said it failed and I needed to get dealer to repair brackets. Didn’t see cracks Got appointment set up along with my annual inspection. Will see what happens

Your welds look just like mine I guess it needs to be beefed up with more welds and 45* angle brackets

The recall cuts the horizontal part of the existing brackets off. Then the new brackets are placed against the old vertical part and two 1/2" holes with bolts are drilled all the way through. No welding is performed.

Does anyone know if we are allowed to do this repair ourselves?

Would FR send me the parts necessary to complete the repair?

The hour each way to the closest FR shop, I would think would be the same amount of time if I did it myself.

They say a dealer must do the work, likely to assure the work is done at least sort of in compliance with the recall instructions and also because a dealer can submit the paperwork to close the recall against the VIN.

I doubt a dealer would even send you the brackets for self-install because FR wants the cut-off horizontal part returned to them, likely to help assure the work was actually done. And because if you exploded your propane tank doing the work yourself they would be in a real liability mess.

I would assure my dealer has the parts before I drove there and also tell them that you will not leave the motorhome overnight. I told my dealer for the window recall that we would not leave it overnight because I did not want to risk our catalytic converter being stolen. To my surprise, they agreed. Later I found out the dealer had already been hit and had several catalytic converters stolen.

That is so weird. At least one 2019 GT5 34H5 has the L brackets, built in September 2018. Our 2020 GT5 34H5 was built about two months after yours and has L brackets.

But you don't.

It's almost like MORryde forgot to install the L brackets on yours so someone scrounged up a tank that would fit.

Whatever works, I guess.

Best guess. My front bracket was made, because they ran out of the thin angle iron. I am thankful. I will still inspect often. Did you tilt your laptop, so the pic turned top side up? The other thing to keep inspecting, is the frame extension welds, and the 5,000 lb. hitch. Chilly rainy night in southern Arizona tonight. Hot tub time, and Coors light. Happy trails

Wait, what? Your propane tank is at the rear of the coach? I thought we both had 2020 GT5 34H5's.

Ours is the first compartment behind the driver front tire.

I had my coach at the dealer for maintenance, they inspected it and send pictures to FR. And got the recall repair done in a few days as part on some other warrant repairs and maintenance. I read several horror stories about dealers taken forever, but mine took all together with the maintenance and extra items I added, like a mud flap and a Safe T PLus steering assist less then 3 weeks.

Went by our dealer on Wednesday to check on whether or not they had heard back from FR. They told me that FR had delivered the repair kit on Monday and I'm now scheduled to have the repair completed May 13th. Glad to see they're responding promptly to this recall.
