2020 Georgetown XL broken weld on battery tray and other broken welds on a GT7
These pics were posted by someone else on another forum. He went to check the water level in the four house batteries and load test them but noticed the battery tray was crooked. He found the weld broken on one side at the rear.
Those four house batteries should weigh right around 200 lbs. This might be a good thing to check annually for everyone. There's a lot of rust in that edge so the broken weld has been there for a while.
Someone with a later model year GT7, 2021 or 2022, recently got flagged by a passing driver. He found a broken weld on the propane tank mounting had caused the ASME tank to drop almost to the ground. While driving...
Think about how far that tank had to drop to be visible by a passing motorist. That ASME tank can hold just over 20 actual gallons of propane when full.
He also had found broken welds on his hitch after people flagged him, pointing at his toad. The initial finding was that the people installing the hitch may have forced the bolts in and put stress on the hitch. He does not have a final determination from FR on the actual cause yet, though.
Check your welds closely, especially if you see rust on them. Clean rust-free metal on a broken weld says it was a recent failure. Rusted and dirty metal on a broken weld says it wasn't.
FWIW,
Ray
