This is branch off of “bryankloos” prior post “HW296 Rot - What to do.…” I branched off of his post, about this related post. I felt like I was high jacking his post (sorry!), so time to create my own new one.
I cleaned well around the cracked seal for the roof vent, using a toothbrush and 70% isopropyl alcohol, then with paper towels, then a second clean with the 70% isopropyl alcohol of just the cracked part of the seal, then again with paper towels. It has rained nearly every 3 days or less non stop since early March here. So I then used a 1.300 watt hair dryer to throughly heat and dry this area.
I was surprised how thin this was compared to regular caulk, it worked well to cover the original sealant edges and fill in the crack that had formed there. Attached are 2 pictures of this project.
After I finish cleaning the camper from this Spring's use I will cover it with a reflective tarp to store until the fall camping season in October. I am not a hot weather camping fan, this time of the year I would have to go far north from Texas where I live or to high elevation to camp in the summer. Both are far away, as I wait for my wife to retire this coming January, so next year I hope to do just that with her, for summer trips.
This coming December after the fall camping season I will inspect this seal again and if needed I will remove all of the original and added sealant with a plastic putty knife and completely redo the entire seal for the roof vent as recommended by “jimmoore13”.
