2205S Owners Thread

Can anyone who has the RV Shady window protector tell me, do you need a ladder to put it on the window? I'm not talking about initial installation, I'm talking about climbing on the tongue and just putting it on the already installed velcro without needing a ladder.

I don't use a ladder, I stand on the trailer tongue. I am 5'8" in case that was the next question. I start on one side, line up the edge and press, then the rest goes easy.

Just curious. Why even remove it since it is a bed in front. Two side windows already to let light in.
I can see removing it on the front kitchen models so you are not staring at a black cover.
Summer time if you are not in the shade the window is just a big heat sink. Leaving in place helps keep the camper cooler.

The front window was the biggest reason we landed on this trailer. Where we tend to camp we look at beautiful views out that big picture window. The description on the RVshady window cover indicates it is for towing protection not storage, I assume meaning the elements will cause it to deteriorate faster. But If we happen to be in a hot place and sun is an issue then I would put it over the window.

We have a new trailer on order and I was wondering how many people cover the front window while travelling? I realize it is a concern.

Many purchase a custom window cover. They aren't cheap but they seem to work.
There are a number of companies that make them.
If and when we get our new Rockwood 8263mbr, we'll be getting one.

We travel a lot of unpaved and semi paved roads in the Sierras and so far have not had a problem with our uncovered window. We do try to keep our speeds down reasonably

The chips in the front window typically come from freeway travel when rocks or other debris is kicked up by trucks and cars traveling ahead. We have the RV Shady cover which is an excellent product at a reasonable price.

Our 2022 2205S had a chipped windshield when we picked it up from the dealer, so it was probably damaged just in the initial trip from Indiana to Ontario. After a failed attempt to patch the chip, our dealer replaced the windshield under warranty and we haven't had an issue since. Having said that, I've been nervous about the potential for further road damage and have looked off and on for a decent cover but haven't found anything (up to now) that I felt was good enough quality to purchase.

The RV Shady cover though looks like it would do the job and I've bought at least one other of Trailersphere's products. They seem to be a decent company and the jack cover they supplied me is very good quality. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't hesitate to order the RV Shady cover for our trailer. Unfortunately, these are not normal times. Given the utter disrespect the current U.S. administration is displaying towards Canada, I, like many Canadians, am doing everything I can not to purchase anything from U.S. companies until this situation changes. As a result, even though Trailersphere and other reputable U.S. companies deserve my business, I will hold off on my order until the U.S. administration recognizes that we are all better off when we respect each other's sovereignty and mutually-negotiated agreements. For my U.S. friends and colleagues, please know that I mean no disrespect for the American people and your right to choose your leaders, but the respect I have for you does not negate my obligation to do the right thing for Canada.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of a similar windshield cover made by a Canadian or other non-U.S. company, I'd welcome your feedback.

Isn't it true that Canada had been charging American products tariffs for some time while relying on American military might? How many aircraft carriers does Canada have anyway? Try to get treatment for that bad case of TDS.

I don't disagree with your comment that Canada needs to increase it's military spending, but the information your administration is feeding you on tariffs is far from the truth. I don't mind debating you on the whole tariff topic, but in the interests of not overly politicizing this forum, I would suggest, Pacifictime, that you send me a private message if you want to have a respectful discussion that way.

Oh, so after laying out your political poop you don't want to politicize this forum? You want to tell me how wrong I am in a private message? Let me tell you publicly, on this one topic alone, the US spends 3.4 % of GDP ($849 Billion) on defense. Canada, who feels no need, guess why, to spend the money, spends 1.3% of their GDP (a whopping 3.7 billion) on defense.
So, you hold no disrespect for the American people, yet you are going to try to hurt us with your smug gesture to withhold purchasing American products? Further, that we Americans are fed our information by our administration is gaslighting at its most insulting.

To the person with TDS:
Please refrain from tarnishing this forum for American made Forest River products by bringing politics to a place where it isn’t wanted. I have plenty to say about your comments but I won’t contribute to downgrading this forum. If you don’t like your made in Indiana USA manufactured 2205S I would highly recommend getting rid of it and then you won’t have to worry about the windshield anymore.

As we are waiting to pick up our 22FBS, my wife thinks we need one of the window protectors.
What's the consensus on brands to consider?
I've learned the hard way that the cheapest price isn't always the best price.
Thanks in advance
John

In my opinion the RVshady window cover is well made, fits perfectly and remains in place when towing. The price is also reasonable, and they are very responsive to orders and emails. But since this is the only window cover I have used so I can't compare to any others.

I plan on buying a RV Shady before my next trip. One of the things I like best about my 2205S is the very dark windows. I think the dark tint of the windows will protect the interior from sun fading. I plan to use the RV Shady as rock protection only taking it off during storage. I think the sun would wear the cover out quickly.

Just got back from a trip to southern Arizona. Stayed in a very nice RV Park called Quail Ridge in Huachuca City. We went to see some of the hummingbird sanctuaries as it is migration time. There's a lot to do and see in this area. The town of Sierra Vista is just large enough to have everything you might need. RV City has a well-stocked parts and accessories department.
Tombstone and Bisbee are quite close and fun to visit. There are also a lot of wine tasting in the area. I live in the Sonoma Valley area of California, so I'd say they have a ways to go yet. We drove to the border at the small town of Naco, to see the border wall. We also toured the Titan missile site. The first four days were very cold, but by the time we left for home it had warmed and was over 100 a large part of the trip home.

Thanks Pacifictime for the recap of the AZ trip, sounds like some interesting things to see, was not aware they had wineries there.

I'm planning a trip out West next year (postponed from this year) and noted the campground @Pacifictime mentioned. Unfortunately, the website states no dump station so I'll have to pass on considering that location enroute to Tuscon.

Hummingbird migrations would be quite interesting to see - I feed them here in S Florida October thru March. They must be migrating as they are leave for the summer.

JimM, I see on the Quail Ridge home page it says "no dump station." Maybe that means that they have no dump station for pubic use, but we had full hookups including electric, water and sewer and the rates were very reasonable.
