AAA would not change my tire...

Others are correct, it doesn't matter which roadside assistance package you buy, or from whom. They all use the same local contractors, so your experience will be determined by the local contractor. I think we have used about all of the different roadside assistance providers over the course of our RVing career. We finally decided we don't need any of them. We have better luck either changing the tire ourselves, or calling companies in the nearest towns ourselves and arranging service. I realize most MH owners are unable to change the large tires, especially duals, but I would rather be in control of who I call than an unknown dispatcher across the country.
Currently we just have our regular auto insurance roadside assistance for towing if needed. And yes, ours will also tow the trailer if necessary with perhaps an extra fee depending on circumstances. So far have never needed a tow, fingers crossed.

Dropped AAA about three years ago

AAA's refusal to provide the services they advertised caused me to drop them about three years ago when I was told that despite the fact that I had been paying for it for years, they did not provide certain services in my area. In short, they lie about what they cover and tell you TS when you need the services you paid for. They are simply unconscionable.

To clarify my post above, our motorhome is insured through State Farm with Emergency Roadside service on the policy. It covers towing as well as tire changes and according to State Farm any additional charges the service provider may legitimately want to charge, like replacing a leaking valve stem, will be paid by State Farm in real time as they are notified.

I researched stand alone emergency Roadside services packages long ago and came to the conclusion they all use the same local providers. You get what you get by area and luck. Not paying extra for what I already have.

We've been traveling out west a week now and seen lots of vehicles at the side of the road getting serviced

Have you call the main office and file a complaint.bc I had broke down twice once pulling my boat and then my trailer...first time they didn't want to pull my boat home.they wantefto drop it off at a rest stop.my dad pick it up they reburst me.then my camper they didn't towed.file a second complaint then they gave me a free yr of aaa plus rv

Just got back from HHI with the family but unfortunate had a flat a hour from home. Was in stop and go construction traffic, coming thru Asheville, NC when my TPMS started alarming. I had a passenger side, inner rear tire going down. I watched it carefully and it was dropping about 2 psi in 1-2 mins which allowed me to pick a good spot off an exit. Once stopped, I checked my tire pressure with a hand held gauge and it confirmed the pressure was dropping. Ok, no problem, I had AAA Premier RV coverage. I will just call them up, tell them to send out someone to switch out my spare and I would be on my way. Made the call, which went to the TN branch (home location) and they said that I would get a call from the NC group in about 5-10 mins. 25 mins later I decided to call NC group and find out what was going on. That's when the lady told me that I was scheduled for a tow to the nearest tire repair facility. I answered "No, that is not right, I just need someone to switch out my spare." I was then told "AAA policy does not cover the changing of the inner rear tire on a dually, since it requires special tools." I answered, "that is not correct either, when you remove the outside tire, the inner will comes off. There is no special tooling needed." Well, an argument started, since her computer was saying that I had no idea what I was talking about. Finally, I said "just send someone out to change the outer tire and when they take it off, I will change the inner tire." Response on that one was "sir, you are just trying to manipulate the system and this is a recorded line". Finally, just gave up, unhooked my tow vehicle, bought a jack and switched out my own tire. Wasted 2 hours, trying to get a tire switch out. So, beware if you have AAA membership service because they will not touch the inner tires. I have looked on their website and so far have not seen an exclusion for the inner tires. Just a big load of BS!!!

And that’s why I never would subscribe to AAA!! Too many stories just like this one!

What good is a free year if they won't tow your stuff when you need them to?

You can get equally good if not much better service for far less money through a road service add-on to your RV vehicle insurance policy. Considering that they do all call the same providers, and these insurance coverages tend to be full. Check with your insurer or insurance agent for complete details. Our coverage with State Farm is $19 per 6 months. They did a local tow for us once at no charge at all, no deductible or co-pay.

Ditto on what MNTraveler said about adding Emergency Roadside service to your vehicle insurance policy.

I also have a Stste Farm policy with Emergency Roadside Service, and the Emergency Roadside service through the policy works - but like the many standalone Emergency Roadside Service choices out there the quality of service depends on the local service provider.

For folks with Motorhomes less than 5 years old just use Ford’s free roadside assistance and no need to have a secondary RA.
If pulling a towed just use the RA offered by the insurer of that vehicle.

Thanks TNshawn for the heads up.
I'm in Canada, with the Canadian branch of AAA, the CAA, paying for RV Plus coverage for my vehicles; 2 Caravans, a collector car and the motor home.
I intend to call CAA and put the question directly to them: If I have a flat on the inside or outside tires on my Class C, 23 foot motor home.
If I get the kind of response you did, I'll be shopping for other coverage

I recently had CAA change my rear inner tire in my driveway with no issues.

Not all motorhomes are built on a Ford chassis. I doubt Ford’s free roadside assistance will help with a Chevy or a Mercedes-Benz based motorhome.

I was going to say for those with a Ford chassis but thought it would be obvious that I meant this for Ford owners. Guess I should have been more specific.

AAA roadside service?..

Same issue occurred with me. I had a blowout exiting the interstate in Cheyenne, Wy. Called my AAA RV service and was told they should be there within the hour. An hour latter, no one has shown up and I call AAA again. They apparently didn’t have the right jack either, but hadn’t bother to call to tell me. 5 hours latter with a bottle jack and a large tire iron from Walmart and 2 volunteers, we got it changed. No thanks to AAA.

Road side service

I got us stuck in the sand at the beach in Texas. My wife called AAA and they said they would not come to pull us out. It wasn’t covered, we have RV Plus. I think it’s time to change providers, too many unhappy rv’ers with AAA.

Luckily a fellow rv’er with a 4x4 F250 pulled us out.

Also luckily I installed a front receiver so we used it to hook the strap to instead of the suspension.

Don’t get Good Sam they are worse than AAA

I disagree. When my camper's axle snapped off 2400 miles from home near Flagstaff, AZ, Good Sam not only sent someone out to get my camper well enough to limp into town on the good axle, they had made arrangements at a local shop to do the actual repairs. My wife and I were able to use the camper while it sat on blocks at the repair facility while they awaited parts delivery.

Good Sam saved our butts.

Good Sam

My wife and I were about 340 miles from home when I had a problem with a wheel bearing on the trailer. Good Sam told me they would send a tow truck to take the tire off the axle but I would have to foot 185$ out of pocket. I ended up pulling the tire off and towed the 5er back up the height about 20 miles back to an awesome RV dealer who had the issue fixed up a day later. They have another dealership about an hour and a half from my house so when we decide on another RV whatever it may be that’s where we will take our business. Canceled good Sam the next day and haven’t looked back since.

AAA and RVs

I had just bought a new 5th wheel with those cheap underrated tires doing closer shakedown gain confidence trips a tire went flat and shredded (dual axle trailer, no TPMS). Called AAA and they sent someone even though I did not have RV coverage (but was a multi decade customer)! Used some 2X4 boards to get up on good tire and put on the spare. Wonderful!

I need to add RV coverage! Went down to the AAA office. Fortunately I asked questions. No if the towing car needs a tow to get fixed the RV gets abandoned. If you had two tires go on the RV we don't do anything. In fact we will never tow the RV anywhere. Hmmm glad I did NOT get out my checkbook.

Several have complained about AAA. I left them years ago for the same reasons listed here. I have had Good Sam Emergence road service for 15 years. They have pulled my truck and trailer out of mu twice where I sunk to the axel. They came from Bakersfield to the Mojave desert to change tires. I could go on and on, I have had to use them on NUMEROUE occasions, NO PROBLEMS. AAA is only goo as a travel agent and free maps in the old days , and don't even need them now for anything.....they are corrks, liars, and PITA's. Stay away from them. Dood Sam is CHEAP..

I'm having a tough time figuring out why you would wait 2 hours, much less 15 minutes for someone else to change the tire that you had the ability to do and ended up doing yourself?
