AC won't run on main power

I had been using my camper as a living space while getting a home built. Today I needed to move the slide outs in for heading work. I haven't done this in a while so my 12v battery was dead. I guess it was old since it should have been charging off main power.

I didn't think jumpering a good battery into the old would affect anything so that what I did. Slide outs came back in fine and all seemed well.

I came back this evening and now my AC won't turn on under main power. It will turn on when I connect the battery.

I can't find that manual so I'm not sure what this issue might be.

Help would be appreciated.

Battery not charging, no AC, first impression is you are not getting 110AC voltage.
Check the circuit breakers on your fuse box. If you have a microwave, check that it works.

I've reset the circuit breakers and I didn't notice a fuse that looked blown.

Microwave is working.

Microwave doesn’t need 12vDC (battery) for anything.
Is there a chance you connected the new battery backwards OR you opened the battery disconnect?

I don't believe I did but I did have some sparks when paralelling the batteries. More than what I expected.

My assumption was there was a converter that supplied the 12vdc from the main power but maybe that assumption was mistaken.

If I need to replace with the new battery I can do that but I'd still be at a loss as to what happened.

Is there a converter on the 2016 RLS 272 heritage glen? If so, where can I take a look at it?

If you caused sparking while messing with the batteries, you probably tripped the 12v resettable circuit breaker. It's normally tucked up along the A-frame.

ALL RVs have CONverters. It's normally behind the fuse/breaker panel. Suggest that you Google "the 12 Volt Side of Life". It's a good primer on the two different RV electrical systems.

Ok yes however, when I place the new battery (the one I used to parallel the old battery) back in the circuit the air conditioner works. Were a breaker tripped this would not work, yes?

At any rate, I'll go give it a look. Presumably I can follow the hot lead.

Since the a/c only runs on 120v AC power, thec12v battery has nothing to do with it.
The 12v resettable circuit breaker has a tiny black reset button you have to push.
That's why you need to check out the 12 Volt Side of Life website since you seem to be confused with the two different RV electrical systems.

I’m trying to understand something. Are you saying that you connected a new battery in parallel with a dead battery? If so, why?

Converter... will supply 12v power to the thermostat
you don't even need a battery

but IF... you have to connect battery for thermostat to work either of these could apply
a) converter may have been installed on/near the battery and may be on the wrong side of the battery disconnect and 12v breaker....

Usually converters won't be disconnected when you turn off battery but in this case it will be a stand alone thermostat ..
where they put it Dunno!. You'll have to search for it the 2 most common places is close to battery area OR inside fuse panel and even behind the 12v FUSE PANEL

b) converter may be faulty ,
disconnect battery does any other 12v stuff work....... the water pump or inside lights ?

once you find it check it's connections and any fuses/breakers
Stand alone models can have 2 FUSES near the 12v output .. check them
If you wired battery incorrectly +/- these fuses will blow

any chance when you connected battery you reversed the positive /negative ... this would blow those 2 fuses

The fact that you saw BIG spark says original battery is flat ... probably beyond saving if you let it sit for long time without any charging... when you replace the battery figure out to use converter to keep it charged... don't disconnect the battery through the battery disconnect switch.

Once in a while .... do battery maintenance .... check it is working, fluid levels and it is accepting/holding a charge ....

slides jacks and stabilizers ... may require a battery to help them get moving as the INITIAL LOAD can be very high
converter may not have enough oomph it is usually around 55 or 60amps

PS additional... converters that are part of the fuse panel... will have the 2 fuses marked "REVERSE" on the main fuse panel if you got them check them too

Very common to connect replacement battery backwards which blows the oddly named reverse polarity fuses in the power center. A pair of 40a fuses in mine.

Battery usually connects the Negative pole to the frame via a white wire.
