Hi all,

I have done some searches on here and there seems to be quite a bit of mentions on the Andersen hitches, but I have not seen any dealing with the Ultimate version of the hitch. We just purchased one, have not towed it yet, but I have to say I love the installation of it and the ability to remove it from my bed by myself.

We have a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually, Mega Cab, 8 foot bed. Towing a 2024 Forest River Cedar Creek 375BHO. Hitch weight is stated to be 2430Lbs.

Does anyone utilize the same hitch? Are you using safety chains as well, anti-skid mat, updated Bed Andersen Hitch?

Looking for every bit of information I can get.

Thanks
Ed

I've towed my 2015 Wildcat 5th wheel 29167 miles with my Andersen Ultimate hitch. Mine is the original black powder coated steel sold before the current aluminum version. I DO use chains I bought from Andersen when I bought the hitch because different states have different rules about chains and I'd rather spend the $60-70 for them than to spend 45 minutes arguing with a trooper beside the highway in another state. I do not use an anti-skid mat. I don't know what "updated Bed Andersen Hitch" is. When I needed my trailer's extended service contract to pay for a pin box weld repair, I had to prove I was using the Andersen Ultimate Connection and NOT their gooseneck Ranchhand hitch.

Andersen hitch

We have used the ultimate for almost 7 years and over 40,000 miles pulling a 2019 36ck2. Works great and we love it, that said I don't like the large footprint of the base. I have it installed over my BedRug and never had any problems with it shifting or damaging the BedRug. I will tell you to re-toque after the trailer is totally on the hitch with your front legs pulled up. I have never used chains and not seen the need as it is still the same mounting points as a standard 5th wheel hitch.

I also had the ultimate Anderson hitch it was installed with the bed shaft. I had a spray in bed liner and never had any movement after traveling 20,000 miles. I do recommend you buy a torque wrench as they have recommended torque for all the bolts that need to be checked and also when you remove and reinstall. Later RJD

Have used one with a similar sized CC Hathaway RE34 since 2018. Short bed Ram Diesel. No issue on parking.

likely 30.000 or more miles.

No issues. Make sure to check torque on bolts now and then. Also the locking bolts in the hitch on the fiver.

We have Chains. Required buy law in most states.

Ours is on the bed liner. Not much movement.

Thanks for the input everyone, I went ahead and bought the Andersen Bed Shaft and the chain kit. My bed has Rhino lining so I dont think I should have any sliding issues
