Well, looks like I'll have a good head to head comparison in the gas vs diesel debate. DD just traded his king ranch , f250 on a 14 Laramie 3500,with the bigger hemi,crew,8'box,with 410 ,srw. Vs my 12 crew,cummins,8'box,with I think 373rear. Dealer told him,he should get almost the same mpg as the cummins. We'll see.....

Will be looking forward to a cost comparison.
I hope he keeps good notes.

Hay Herk!!
Ya, we will see, good records?humm... Probably not , he will show better numbers ,just to mess with me. Supposedly, the gas has the upper hand,it will drop 4 cyl. when at cruzing speed. I saw it last night, it is the midnight gold ? Looks like brown, with a lot of metal flake. Vary sharp.

Hmmmm $200.00 oil changes?

You should be able to double your mileage on oil life from a gas to a diesel as the 15w40 diesel oil has so many more additive packages to extend and still be a good viabt oil.
10 qts. @ 4.00 a qt
1 oil filter @ $8.00
1 fuel filter "caterpillar" "10,000 mile" service interval. "2 micron"

Having used both a gas engine (8.0 V10) and diesel engine (6.4) for towing, the cost factor is no longer an issue for me. I love the power of a diesel but more importantly I love using the truck pumps when fueling up. I don’t miss the stress of being able to maneuver around the gasoline pumps.

Wow Herk, $200 oil change is high. I get my oil changed at the Ford dealership and it runs me $105.

When the weather was so bad,I went to speedy lube.did not feel like crawling under trk. They did chance n lube, for $85 with conventional oil. Much shorter life than the delvac, I was using. Said they had the delvac, and would use for, $185. I run a lot of miles, and am trying to see which way is best.?

Boy, I get Mobil 1 10-30 $26, and GMax charges $30 and furnishes the filter, grease job, air pressure and light check. Definitely will keep me old gasser.

Duramax needs 10 quarts every oil change plus filter.
Every other oil change is a very expensive fuel filter (whole thread devoted here to replacing the stock GM filter and body to use cheaper CAT fuel filters.)

We won't even talk about the Allison Transmission (it does have a spin on oil filter though).

My 6.4 diesel take 15 quart of oil w/ filter. It does get expensive when I have both fuel filters changed. Regardless, I could never go back to a gasser.
