This time it was a 2021 GT7 and the dinette slide. Per the owner's post on a different forum FR blamed it on "moisture" but sent them a new slide controller.
If you have a 2019.5 through 2023 GT5 or a 2019 through 2022 GT7 with the Precision Circuits touchscreen and had a slide extend while driving π£ππππ¦π, π£ππππ¦π ππππ ππ‘ π‘ππ§π¦π ππ’π π£ππππ‘π§!!!!!!
Multiple people have reported this happening to them yet there are NO published NHTSA reports and this problem likely will NEVER get fixed proactively until people pile on with the NHTSA.
Some people freak out when reporting to the NHTSA is mentioned yet FR's own documents tell the motorhome owner to notify the NHTSA about safety problems. See: Owner's Kit
If you had this happen:
Keep the colorful language out but be descriptive and mention how much the slide sticks out. I think our GT5 dinette slide is about 30".
Mention the safety aspects such as driver distraction, hitting other vehicles, other vehicles hitting you, the slide sticking out causing a loss of control, possible structural damage from the heavy slide bouncing around that could cause a loss of control, etc.
Those are obvious but need to be in the complaint. The NHTSA only has jurisdiction over safety issues. The NHTSA CANNOT do anything without owner complaints unless FR self-reports the problem, which they should have done already, but that would not necessarily require an NHTSA recall without owner complaints.
ALSO be certain to send FR an email with your VIN and copy their Office of Corporate Compliance about the problem and what you were told by FR. FR will search their warranty claims and possibly not find any. They will tell the NHTSA they are unaware of the problem or that there have only been a few complaints. This is why notifying FR formally as well is so critical. They cannot fix what they do not know about.
Remember that rear sway bar bracket and bolt recall on the early V8's? That was triggered when a grand total of FOUR motorhome owners filed NHTSA complaints. The impact matters, not how many owners are affected and this is a biggie.

If FR is sending people new slide controllers to resolve the problem that means Lippert should know why.

There is an easy test you can run to see if the Precision Plex system is receiving the Parking Brake electrical signal BUT DO NOT, REPEAT NOT, DO THIS TEST WITH THE JACKS DOWN OR ON UNLEVEL GROUND!
Releasing the Parking Brake with the jacks down will immediately retract all jacks without any buttons being pressed and if the slides are out you can cause a lot of damage. The best time to run the test may be when you have just parked but not set up yet, ready to leave, or at a rest area.
----------
1. Locate the Precision Plex Master Panel. It may be above the entry door, under the kitchen sink, in a center closet, or somewhere else.
----------
2. Press the CENTER button once to light up the display.
----------
3. Press the CENTER button a second time to get to the main menu.
----------
4. Push the BOTTOM button as many times as needed to get to a menu item named INPUTS MONITOR. On our 2020 GT5 it is the second selection.
----------
5. Push the CENTER button to select INPUTS MONITOR.
----------
6. Push the BOTTOM button as many times as needed to find PARK BRAKE. Ours is labeled 11-16 PARK BRAKE.
What does it show, LO or HI? LO should mean "parking brake is set" while HI should mean "parking brake is released".
Change the parking brake a few times and see if the display changes from LO to HI and back. I suspect it will change back and forth appropriately.
----------
7. Press the LEFT button as many times as needed to get out of the menu system. The display does not timeout so you need to do it manually so no one and nothing put in the cabinet presses a button by accident and makes something unexpected happen.
----------
Other people who had a slide extend while driving said the Precision Plex system properly reflected the parking brake position, as I recall. That meant the problem probably was somewhere else.
From what I've read, the Lippert SlimRack slide control box is supposed to have a direct connection to the parking brake signal but FR and PP decided that sending the parking brake signal to the Precision Plex system and turning the buttons off was an acceptable alternative.
But the system seemed to be susceptible to electrical signal noise that caused the slides to move. I think two owners got a new Lippert control box from FR.
Lippert had a recall for a similar problem, the slides moving on their own, but part of the problem was their own control panel and part was the slide controller. The 2019-2020 FR3, Dynamax, and GT3 were affected because they do NOT use the touchscreen control.
Thanks for reading this.
