Any Ham radio operators in here?

Hello all - Just found this forum! DW and I just purchased a FR Solera in late January... been out in it once - waiting for spring to finally get here so we can get out more often. We traded down from a 38' pusher to the Solera. I haven't been actively hamming for last 10-15 years. I had Icom706 installed in the pusher but we hadn't been actively RVing much during that time either. DW and I are finally fully retired, and I do want to get back to RVing and on the air soon. I can't decide what to install in the Solera. Have a 2m/440 dual bander that I'm considering - quick and easy install, so maybe I'll be back on the air soon. The 706 later with screwdriver. Anyone got any recommendations for a good mobile 2m/440 antenna for a class C rig? I'm thinking probably through-glass mount since I don't want to do any roof penetrations. But I'm open to any suggestions. I note this is an old thread, but hopefully someone is checking. Is there a good forum somewhere dedicated to Ham Radio RVers?

de N4CNG, gen class. was in the comerical radio (two-way) for 28 years. Sort of lost the HAM radio thrill after screwdrivering two-way radios for such a long time. But do have a dual bander installed in TV. Have HF rig
brand new sealed in box since 2004. One day the urge will hit me again.

It would be good to have a regular ham radio forum. The tricks and tribulations of mobile gear is always interesting.
Our house is on the market now and we'll go full time if/when it sells. As a result, all the antennas are down and the rigs are packed up. I don't know if I'll bother after we move to the RV. The Alpha 87A at 1500 watts might be difficult in a crowded campground! 2 meters has become intolerable for me. It's almost as bad as 11 meters although generally the language is nicer.

Can we make this forum permanent?

Since 1986. Advanced class license. Have a Ten Tec Omni V, Paragon, Yaesu Ft 450 and a couple of two meter rigs. Plan on taking the 450 camping. Why don't we set a time to meet on the air some weekend?

Always helps to double check things before spending money. Don't guess a glass mount on the windshield is gonna work! Too much overhang from the cabover on the "C" - so probably an adjustable/articulating trunk lip mount to attach to the hood lip. But that's OK, probably work better than the glass mount anyway.
 
K5DTR here. I've been licensed since 2007, got my extra class ticket in 2008.

I still don't own any rigs, except for a 40 meter CW QRP rig I built. I learned CW on my own, and also built my own straight key and iambic paddles. The last place I was stationed had a club station and I used that equipment. I am stationed in Newport, RI now, and have not been active on the ham bands for a few years now.
 
W4DRR here. Been licensed since the stone age....well....not quite....1969 actually. Not on the air at the moment since I have been too lazy to put up antennas after the last move. Have an FT-840 for HF and an FT-2600 for 2M. In case anyone is interested, www.openroadsradio.net is a site dedicated to both ham radio and RV'ing.

Yep. Can identify with the inactivity (wb5jaz). Wouldn't mind being in contact with other hams. Own Heathkit, Collins, icon, som drake. Assembled the Heathkit ant have troubleshot several others. Hold an advanced and a first commercial (reduced to general when first wad discounted).
 
I have been so inactive for several years that I almost forgot that I was a licensed HRO. Call sign K0AQI...class, General. I had two uncles, Fred K6AQI and Len W6FHU who developed, patented and sold the Spider HF antenneas. I acquired the vanity sign so uncle Fred and I would have fun on HF with the two call signs so similar. I really need to get the ol' 706 back in the TV for some added deversion while traveling down the byways. Just letting you know that I am here and have a multitude of old Kenwood 130S gear that could use a new home.
 
KE7RDU here. i have a kenwood TM-D710A with a comet CSB-790A hooked to geosat avmap5 for ARPS, and a galaxy 93T in my mobile unit :)

Hi Rod, K5PFR here. I used to live in Fallbrook, CA, now in Conroe, TX

My 5th Wheel is new today, so no radios yet. I plan to have 2 meters/440 in the truck and

2M/440 & HF in the trailer.

W4JFL here. I currently hold a General Class license, but am studying for my Extra. I am very active in my local Ham Radio Club as well as ARES and have been licensed since 1999.

We just bought our first Travel Trailer a Wildwood LE 26TBSS, after spending many years tent camping. I do not have any radios installed in the camper yet, but do carry along my HT wherever we go in addition to the dual band in the truck. Good to see so many Hams on here!

Having just got a new coach, I haven't had a chance to add a mobile in it.
I do have a Kenwood V71A in the Jeep. Also carry a couple of handhelds.

Carry my Yaesu VX-7R tri-band handheld when traveling for emergencies. My shack is full of Kenwood gear. I haven't renewed my licenses since I returned from Australia and held a reciprocal license while living in Woomera, SA.
