Batten Down The Hatches, Mateys!

also one of the few areas here that has underground power... max lost time was about 2 minutes.. even though the transformer had water lapping at the side.

When I had the house power upgraded from 100 amp to 200 amp I got pics of how the underground wiring connected to the transformer in the corner of our backyard. That incoming power is 7,200 volts per the lineman and the lowest terminal is about eight inches off the ground level.

Probably don't want to be anywhere near that thing with water lapping at it...

Not sure if it’s hurricane status yet, but I’m assuming you’re talking about Milton?
Even our local Canadian weather network is showing a projected bullseye track coming directly at Tampa…..at least as of tonight.

We’ll be watching and praying otherwise 🙏

Please go and be safe. I just heard form a YouTuber that the Army says they are only in NC to pick up bodies. Some are in trees, including a woman and her childen. They don’t deliver supplies or rescue the living. They said they can’t help more than they are because they are too busy at the border and to be prepared to two zeros to the numbers. Please don’t be a Florida statistic! Just go find a calm place to watch from.

I rmember the four I sat through in ‘04 well! We had no water, sewer, or power for 5 days! My sons pulled trees out the streets with my Jeep so emergency vehicles could get through. When they announced a 5th hurricane coming, I went to Texas to see a brand new grandbaby. He just turned 20 and wants to be a Marine. They say they’ll send him to veterinary school. He’s an Eagle Scout, and a great kid. Um, young man. I had to detour way up into Alabama to get home sinced I-10 was closed much of the way. When Andrew went through the center of the state, people in the Ocala Nat’l Forest went 9 months withuot power. But who would expect all this in the mountains of North Carolina. Horrible.

Oh,no! I have an important eye appointment in St.Pete on Wednesday! I HAVE to get that injection! Is the next hurricane going to show up by then? I haven’t seen the weather lately as I am doing a video on Monday for the American Macular Degeneration Foundation! I have to be here! Will we be able tomake a run for it on Thursday?

Right now……weather network is projecting a possible Category 3 making landfall at Tampa by Wednesday. All projections are landfall by mid week.

I guess I’d better locate the shelter just in case, and pack a backpack or two. We were lucky in Helene with just a few hollow trees down. I watch Ryan Hall Y’all on YT abdus Y’all Squad. He has a couple of meteorologists on the ground elsewhere, and they report what happens in the outer bands. Good peeps. He has a 501C3 for disaster victims. The volunteers up there are incredible! Cajun navy, and so manyuothers. Beautiful to see.

Sadly it has happened before and will probably happen again. Hurricanes have caused flooding and high loss of life in NC a few years back. In Virginia in 1985, before that in 1969 Nelson County VA......... Many of those unfortunate people have never been found to this day.

This last one was worse than many hurricanes........

From what the Army said, this count will be worse than Katrina. Hardly anything has been heard from Tennessee, and they got hit hard, too. There is a huge Tiny Home Village in Newport, and it is by a river. I know Newport got hit, flooded, but I don’t know how bad it is. I have to go find our inflatable bed. I’m too old for a cot.

Run!

This is going to hit as a 4 or 5. Major hurricane
This is not a pull in your awning storm.
This is a get in your RV and run.
Run for your life.
This is not a joke. This storm will be one of the strongest ever. Pick up your RV or trailer and throw it across the campground.

I put a post up earlier that I am in Collins Mississippi and have 1 spot in my driveway available for someone. Have power and water no dump. I know it’s a ways off but I have no doubt that the CG’s south in the cost will either be closed or filled up with people fleeing Florida. Offer is out there just let me know you are coming. DM here

Please do not stay in an RV during this storm!

I absolutely agree with your assessment. No one should stay in an RV with a hurricane and this size and power. There has been enough loss of life from Helene. Pack it up, gas up, and just go. Get out while you still can. After seeing dozens of videos, the worst conditions imaginable in North Carolina are stil a fact of life. Thousands had no warning and lost theirives. I’ve been here a very long time; this one has me feeling itchy and I’m up here in Ocala. A ten foot surge is not something to ignore. GO, please. Body bags are in shsort supply.

Hurricane Milton has defied the predictions and grew from a cat 1 to a cat 5 with sustained winds over 180 mph in One Day!!!! Hurricane warnings extend east of Orlando! Debris from the last hurricane are still on the ground and will make amazing projectiles.

Hopefully everyone will heed the warnings and use common sense to get out of town.

Just do not evacuate toward western NC, VA or Eastern TN many roads are out due to Helene

Kentucky is having some of the best weather of the year. It's supposed to be dry and sunny and cool for next 10 days. I 65 runs right up the middle of our bluegrass state. Come on!

Was there late August for National Corvette Caravan, you guys NEED rain. Poor WV and Delaware too. Especially WV, whole state is exceptional drought.
