Has anyone upgraded the gas struts on their bed to hold a heavier mattress? Ours were fine for the the light foam mattress that came with our FE 274RKS, but won't hold up an upgraded queen mattress. Looking for what strut weight I should get.
I can't find any markings on the current ones.

I did on my WolfPup. I just read the label on the exisiting struts and then went to the McMaster Carr website and got the same length and 20lbs stronger. They work great. It did take me 30mins to figre out how to get the old ones off by releasing the spring clip that holds them in place. Pain in the *****. but an easy and simple fix.

Do you recall the original weight rating? There are no markings that I can see on these so I don't know where to start. Maybe 40# since I would guess the originals are maybe 20# to start?

I got a piece of wood 3 inches wide x 3/4 thick and couple of foot long add a screw one end
I screw it into the side of the bed's plywood mattress frame and let it sit on the floor ... IF i need to spend more than a couple minutes in there... Battery maintenance etc

for those times a quick grab of something is in order... I cal the Mrs Over
"Here hold this up"

I really don't trust those gas struts !

This may not be exactly what you have, But my Old Ones were 30inches and 60 lbs, The new ones are of course 30 inches and 70 lbs. Mine could be another 10lbs stronger, but I still have a little strength in my arms. :roflblack:
Oh, and the 30inches is the strut itself, the connecting ends add another 3/4 inch on each end. So measure and calculate carefully!

These are the ones I put on my bed storage but I have a 8” memory foam mattress and it’s still hard to lift. These are 80lbs. Each sorry about the picture.
