Can I Get Some Service?

Hey all. So my wife and I purchased our 2023 Berkshire 40E a couple months ago. We’ve sold our home and are going full time in our RV.

My concern/question to the forum is how to get our unit worked on while on the road? We’ve already had it in for service warranty work which took weeks to get done. Now we’re wanting to hit the road while summer is still here, but have a dishwasher that won’t start, a Aqua Hot that won’t start on diesel and a few other items that need worked on. (It’s a brand new unit!)

Of course I checked the Forest River site to see where I can go for repairs. 2 places hours away. Called and was told that I would again have to bring it in to them only for the repairs in order for the work to be covered by the warranty.

We are living in our MH and cannot take and leave it for weeks to get fixed.

Am I able to hire a local RV repairman to do the work and send the receipt to FR to be covered under the warranty? Or do I have to take it to FR only and sit in a hotel while we wait for a slot to open up in their schedule to get the repairs done every time something is broken?

You can sometimes get a mobile rv tech to do warranty work, but it has to be pre-approved via Berkshire first.

I would start here with that scenario:

Service Warranty

Like WMTire stated a mobile tech can do the work but prior authorization is needed by a Forest River warranty representative. Once the repair is authorized you would have to pay out of pocket and submit the paid invoice along with proof of payment to the warranty dept and they (Forest River warranty) will get you set for reimbursement via a check from Forest River Inc. It is preferred that the Forest River dealer network is utilized that way nothing is out of the customer's pocket.

Also, check with the dealer before you consider renting a motel room. Some of them have rv parks attached or will let you stay in their parking lot while they work on repairs.

Some items are covered by manufacturer's warranties (like dishwashers) and the manufacturer may be able to handle the repairs with a mobile mechanic, so check with them.

Hope you get on the road soon.

Appliances are typically covered by their own warranties, not Forest River. Check their manuals. For example the local Jayco dealer repaired my refrigerator recall under the refrigerator's warranty. And they knew I didn't buy my Roo from them. :)

Independent RV repair place may be the best bet. Dealers don't seem to care or want to keep the vehicle for months.

As you're learning the hard way living in a RV ain't like living at home. Best to be able to fix things your self -- or make friends with the mobile RV repair places.

Since you live in IN, I would encourage you to contact the Berkshire Warranty Dept/Mgr. and see if they can take care of your coach in Elkhart. Last year we were passing through IN. and took our FR3 (under warranty) back to the factory and they fixed mutiple issues in about 5 hrs. They have all the parts and all the knowledge to "get'er done" in a most effecient manor. Give them a call....you have nothing to lose !!!

Good luck !!!
