Can someone send me a picture of their 28ss Xplorer Controller Wiring?

Hi everyone,

My solar system is not working properly. This is my first rodeo with the solar, so I have no idea what I’m doing…

Can someone take a picture of their two GP-MPPT-40 Solar Controllers in the power bay? Mine are wired so that the controller on the left (as I’m looking into the bay) is the master controller.

My question is whether the connections going into the tops of the controllers (a two-sided gray cable and a black-ribbed cable, both with telephone-looking connections) are where they are supposed to be. Right now (picture #1), it doesn’t look like they are wired in parallel. I think they should look like the second picture where the telephone-looking-short-gray-cable is plugged into the two ports that are on the inside (closest to each other) corners of each controller. I have no idea where the black ribbed cable should go… or even what it’s for.

Power is 17 volts from each solar array, measured at the connections to the GP-MPPT-40 Solar Controllers, so power is incoming. I’m hoping this is just a wiring snafu. If anyone can snap a picture of how theirs is wired I would appreciate it.

Best,

Erik

What does Firefly screen say? Data can go to a GoPower remote, but we send the data to Firefly as it is programmed to monitor the GoPower equipment.

It will not charge, if there is no point to charge. IE....the voltage needs to be 5V above the battery to charge and if you are already plugged in and charged, then it will not do anything in full sun.

Your Ethernet looks like you using same port (

instructions say to use A on one controller and B on the second one
Then set the JUMPERS for master / slave for each controller

I think that might have been the proto-type for the GoPower. Engineering says, this is how it should be wired up.

Brian, does you engineer have any hints on the dip switches?

Brian,

Thank you so much for your help!

My question is which controller in the diagram (if either) is set as the master controller? If there is a master, are the dip switches set the way the manual suggests in the attached image?

If not, are they wired in parallel some other way, or are they intended to function as stand-alone arrays (with all three dip switches on each controller set to the “off” position)?

Thank you (and your engineer) again for all of your help.

Best,

Erik

If it was not wired up right, then I would not count on the dip switches.

You should be able to use a phone camera and see what they are set to. It should look just like that image. Three down (I assume A port would be the one on the left). It should have all dips switches off. The one on the right should be the slave. If that is not the case, then it would be much easier to change data cable ports than dip switches in my mind.

IF the dip switches are all off....then I would set it up like it would make sense to me. Left is the Master, right is the slave.
