I’m looking for ideas on how to secure our full size (non-folding) e-bikes in the bed of the truck. I have a front-mounted receiver and a Hollywood Racks bike rack but I feel like the bikes are too exposed to the weather and bugs plus they do block the headlights somewhat so I’m thinking about putting them in the truck bed instead. The only options I’ve seen are a DIY mount using PVC pipe and the RIDE88 rack which is a bit pricey. The bikes do not have removable axles on the front wheels so a fork mount isn’t an option.

If you carry full size e-bikes in your truck bed I would appreciate it if you can post pictures showing how you secure them.

Alternatively, if you keep them in your TT or 5er, how do you place them so they don’t move and don’t scratch anything?

You should be able to mount wheel chocks in there for them in the truck bed that are easy to remove if needed. Amazon has several models to choose from, just find a way to secure it to the truck bed. I have seen some posts on that as well - maybe search for hauling bikes in toy haulers. Even the motorcycle solutions should provide ideas on how you might secure them down. Obviously won't work with a fifth wheel. Another alternative, but won't fix the bug issue, is a roof rack for truck.

Although not ebikes maybe you can adapt the idea.
Its an aluminum Adarack box rack on a 78" box. The two longitudinal bars added with two UHD plastic supports for the handle bars. The angle is ideal to load and off load. Other than a tie down on the rear wheel nothing else to do. The weight is still borne by the bike wheels so for ebikes a plus. The box rack handles the bikes and canoe overtop.

That looks quite handy.

I was going to say, I saw someone hauling a bike this weekend like that, with the wheel over the tailgate like that. I wondered how many people do that. Do you also strap it in somehow? I put mine in the back on its side and attach a bike lock on it to keep it from being stolen while im at a gas station or something.

Depends on how far I'm going. Most of the time I don't strap it in and it stays in place. When I'm going to be driving all day I'll strap it down to the tie down points in the truck bed. Once in a while I'll run a cable around / thru the bike(s) and lock it to one of the tie downs in the truck bed. Between that and locking the tailgate I feel it's fairly secure. But if someone really wanted it I'm sure it wouldn't stop them.
