Ceiling stains?

Anyone have a problem with ceiling stains? The stains will not wash off.
Took our unit into the dealer as I thought that we might have a roof leak.
Dealer said no it was the glue used on the ceiling panels.
Trying to get approval to remedy the problem for over 5 months.
This is not just one area but all over and it will effect resale value.
What say you.

Do the stains come off at all or lighten with cleaning? If it's from the back of the ceiling material it will not come off. Pictures?

Test an area first, but try a spray bottle with bleach.

Cleaning does nothing at all.
The lighting in the motorhome does not show the stains fully. They are brownish in color and iregular in shape. And not located in just one area but all over. When we got the motorhome they were not in evidence.
Just wondering if anyone else has or had this happen and what was the end solution.

You would have to find out what was used as an adhesive. If contact cement, try contact cement cleaner. Once you find out what was used, the web will be full of suggestions.

We get water spots on the ceiling sometimes when we retract the slides after a heavy rain. DW uses Clorox wipes to clean.

50/50 bleach mixture. The ceiling is soft touch vinyl, so the color is all the way through (as opposed to a printed or dyed material). You can even try 25% diluted to start.

Ours has them also, DW has tried many things but never the bleach and water, As per bclemens we will try that and see if it helps.

Ours has those stains too. It is going through dealership pre-PDI as we speak. They have it in their trim shop where the guys do nothing but cleaning & finishing, hopefully they can get it off. I will let them know about the 50/50 bleach recommendation and let everyone know the results.

So we know its not glue...it was something on the surface. We're not seeing it here (but I will inspect again). We see it only after it goes to the dealer. So maybe dealers are using something?

I don't think the dealers are doing it, at least on our rig. We went and saw the rig right after the transport driver dropped it off and the dealer had done zero PDI work on it. It was still dirty on the outside with road grime from the trip. The eagle eye DW spotted it as soon as we walked in the coach. Wish we had looked closer at the ceiling when we visited at the factory, that would have helped narrow down when it was happening.

Wild guess here...Mold? I've never seen what you are talking but could it be mold? Mold can be pink or red? Except bleach should take care of any mold.

My 2015 DX3 definitely has glue stains on the ceiling. If you look at them with the light at the correct angle you can see where they were wiped but not completely removed. This is our third RV and they have all had some ceiling marks, this one is the worst.

Definitely not mold. It’s a pink color. They removed it with a 50/50 water bleach mixture at the factory. All clean now. . Brian, it may be this......

A common myth is that pink stain is mildew or mold. It is really a by-product of a bacterial microorganism. This organism’s by-product, a pink/red dye, is soluble in plasticizer, which is the main ingredient in upholstery vinyl. When this by-product comes in contact with vinyl it causes the pink stain. Wind or rain can carry these microorganisms onto your marine upholstery. These organisms can live and grow in the foam cushion. This too will cause the pink stain on the vinyl.

Could the issue be lighting?

Reason I bring this up is that not long ago I installed some LED strip lights under the cupboards in my house kitchen. Started seeing "stains" on my counter that wouldn't wash off with any cleaner.

Then one sunny day when the kitchen was well lit, and the LED strip lights were off, the "stains" were gone.

The light output can be controlled and as the level is increased or decreased the color of the "stains" changes.

Again, just a thought. I'm assuming that the unit in question has LED lighting.

Might try looking at the ceiling with a portable incandescent light.


Then again, a solution might be to just put pink filters on all lights then the pink stains will just blend in.

I offer this purely in jest-----

You could hold a party in the unit and invite lots of smokers. Then vinyl will turn orange-brown and you won't even notice the pink.

Walked through a couple of used units once that were previously owned by smokers. Of course it only took less than a minute to decide I wasn't buying. The smell overshadowed the color

Are they in certain locations? When i picked mine up from dealer we had random spots above where the slides come in but fortunately they all came off.

I believe I’d be talking to dealer about either get the ceiling clean or change it. You shouldn’t have to accept that on a brand new coach.
