Does anyone have familiarity with the AC Remote Temperature Sensor wire?

My understanding is that the wire should run from remote sensor location into the white two-pin plug on the front AC unit. Our sensor wire is only 18" and was wired into the power and ground of the Connexx AV unit, which caused the wire to overheat and burn the cabinet and cover, blew fuse, but luckily no fire.

Dual 11k Dometic AC's (MFG Model #: B59530 E701J0)
Comfort Control Center 2 Thermostat (#3314080, 50-070701-C, 10 button)

History/troubleshooting:
After arriving at campground, we noticed the front 12V components weren't working up front. TV, puck lights over cab bunk, Connexx AV unit and others. I checked the fuse and it was blown (15A, #3 slot I believe). I put a new fuse in and it immediately blew. I disconnected the easy items and tried again, the next new fuse blew immediately. I then started disconnecting everything I could find from the actual power source wiring. So puck lights, TV plug, completely disconnected at the wires. When disconnecting the Connexx AV Stereo Receiver unit, I noticed two additional wires and traced those to the temperature cup/cover thing (mounted under AV cabinet, above Theater Seating) and saw the melted part. Once I disconnected those wires, I tried another new fuse and it did not blow. I plugged the TV, lights and others back in one at a time and all good. Everything works when I left the temp sensor wire out.

After reading the manuals and finding the replacement wire online, I saw it comes with a two-pin plug that is supposed to be wired into the front AC unit. The Thermostat is located in back bedroom, so the remote wire is for front unit. There is nothing plugged into the front unit "P4" Indoor Sensor plug, it is blank (see pictures). I confirmed nothing is plugged into the rear unit in P4 either.

I believe the "remote" sensor is a "wired remote sensor", not some sort of "remote transmitting sensor", so the wire has to get back to the unit.

If you have dual AC units, have you traced the remote sensor wire from the little cup/cover? Does the wire at least go up into the ceiling? Do you have anything plugged into the remote sensor spot on the AC unit?

I truly hope I'm completely wrong on this topic because I cannot fathom how it could have come from the factory like this. Poor quality is one thing, but this feels worse and dangerous. Again, I hope I am completely wrong and someone corrects me that it is somehow the way it is supposed to work.
