Dometic model 300 odor problem and replacement

I have a Thetford and my wife was complaining about odors. This was the first trip that she complained about them. Not sure what to do yet.

Same here.....1st time but the campground was having issues about 4 sites below us .....so I am not sure if it was our issue ......& of course it was hot & humid.......was real bad when we dumped the tanks.........

I have to give Dometic credit, I just got off the phone with them and they are shipping out a new 310 model toilet today and I will have it mid-week next week. No questions, no arguments, just good customer service.

I thought that I had been having issues with our toilet and odor.
I ran some water into the tub and the smell went away. Figure that the water in the trap under tub probably sloshed out during travel.

I contacted Dometic today and they will send out a 310 to replace my 300 today. Should be here by tomorrow. Excellent customer sevice from this company. In case anybody needs contact info:

I was thinking I was doing something wrong as a newbie. Just got off the phone with Diane. She's great, 310 en route. Looking forward to not having my new trailer smell like an outhouse!

Thanks for the info in this post .I have a new RV with the above 300 toilet and called Dometic on Tuesday they sent a 310 next day .Have it installed and the bad smell is gone .Great customer service and some spare parts for the future .

Yep, ditto! Installed mine today as well. The yucky stuff when I tipped it over was proof of the origin of all the odor. Upset at myself for over tightening the plastic water connection and breaking it, but no biggie. Trip to the hardware store in the next day or so and it'll be an easy fix. The 310 was a nice upgrade they gave us.

I have a new 2014 Grey Wolf 26BH with a Model 300 Dometic toilet with the same problem. Our dealer here in Ontario quickly replaced it with another Model 300 and after 3 days of use, we had the same smell issue. I found all these similar posts here in the FR Forum and let him know. He never heard of the problem, and is sending me a new Model 310 ASAP. The Dometic distributer in Brantford said they are also unaware, although the Dometic Rep in the previous posts in the US, is very aware. I don't understand why FR is not demanding Dometic to re-call these units?

I believe most are fine and it is a problem with a recent batch.

I'm sure if the constant complaints of the 300 keep coming in, they might. Dometic seems to be handling this well. No questions asked and replacing with upgraded models. Kudos to them. Other companies should take example of good customer service. On a side note, the 2 310 models I have now... So far so good!

Thanks Chewie, it's good to hear the Model 310 is working out OK, because this problem with the 300, really turned us off, with our new RV experience. Hope all works out going forward.

If you remove and replace the 300 yourself, you will find the problem. Carefully remove the 300 from your camper without tipping it. Turn it upside down in your driveway and trapped waste will pour out of it. My 310 works great and no more odors!

JohnF, I took some of your advice and was very carefully, but instead of dumping it in my driveway, I used my neighbor's. Ha, Ha, just kidding. It had about a liter and a half of sewage as we suspected. The new 310 is working fine with no more odors and finally we are enjoying our unit.
Thanks for the input.

Our brandy new 2014 Flagstaff 27RLWS started emitting the dreaded urine odor on day three of our first shakedown trip. Drove me mad trying to find the cause/cure. I found this post thank God! I first called my dealer and the service dept. didn't have a clue about the 300 toilets. Hoping a call to Dometic first thing Monday AM will get the ball rolling with an overnight replacement as we are headed down to Myrtle Beach on Thursday for five days.

This morning I removed the 300 toilet because you couldn't stand to be in the TT. Sure enough, when I flipped it over out in the woods about a pint of yellow foul smelling waste drained out from the top. BTW: I wouldn't recommend draining this stuff in your driveway :-( Will post results of Dometic's response in a few days.

Had the exact same problem with our new 2013 Roo. First trip out was 12 days, by day 3 something just wasn't smelling right in the bathroom. The local RV shop and my selling dealer both said you need chemicals in the tank. Luckily i found this thread; I sourced the odor to the rear of the toilet and later in the trip i was able to see the waste back there where it shouldnt have been. We left the fan on the remainder of the trip, called Dometic, and had the upgraded 310 toilet waiting at home for us no questions asked.

We had the same problem on our 2703ws on our last two week trip. I called Dometic, talked to Diane and the new 310 was on the doorstep when we got home. Replaced the 300 in about 20 minutes and have to wait for a couple of week before we can try it out. Our 2010 Sprinter had a 310 installed when we got it and it leaked in the middle where the two pieces came together. Dometic was just as quick and easy to replace that unit too.
I did notice that the 310 has a different top on it and it now rubs on the wall behind it. I'll need to put something behind it, but should'nt be a problem. Beats the smell.

Had the same problem, but not consistently..... Couldn't find a cure, but I purchased a "solar power" sewer vent cover, installed it myself (very easy), and haven't had an odor problem since!
