Hi All! A new big problem and I am looking for help. It does not matter if I am plugged in to 50 amp or on Gen. If I have the rear ac/hp running and I turn on a rear bath or bedroom light or rear fan the ac/hp will stop instantly and lights dim. Turn light off ac/hp starts up instantly. I have talked to Mitch at FR as well as other repair shops. Everyone just scratches their heads. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Frank

I see that you've only made a few posts so I'll ask if this is a new camper or a used camper that's new to you?

It's helpful if you go into your signature settings in your profile and list what year, make and model numbers your tow vehicle and RV are so we know these things as we discuss issues.

I can see why they were scratching their head as lights and fans are run on 12v off your batteries and the AC/HP is run of AC power. Unless we are talking about something that has been modified to run of an inverter which is highly unlikely as it would require a ton of batteries to get an AC up and running for even a few hours.

Sounds like a wiring issue or an convertor/inverter issue.

sounds like the 12v system has an interference with the 12v THERMOSTAT to the air conditioner, which is what controls it - OFF/ON, Temperature, etc.

Maybe a loose wire, who knows.

or, your house batteries are just high enough to make the 12v Thermostat 'work', but when you ask for another LOAD to be applied, i.e., lights, fans, etc., that also run from the 12v system, it is simply 'too much' and the battery basically 'fails' to be able to provide it all, at least at the optimum 12v condition that the Thermostat needs to work.

This is what I'm thinking. I've seen perfectly good A/C units fail because the battery was too weak to power the thermostat.

when is the last time you checked your 12V house battery? I think your battery is either shot or low on water in the cells... pulling that extra 12V load from the fan, allows the 12V voltage to drop too low to power the AC thermostat, which then makes the AC go out.

Agree with Mr Dan above
