Electric Steps

Our electric steps haven't worked for months. We had a repairman look at it and he said it was a loose ground wire and got it working, for $50.00. As soon as he left it quit. Others have checked the ground wire and it is fine but still won't work. Does anyone know if there is a fuse for the steps and where it is located? We're to old to keep taking that long step!

Our steps acted up several times so hubby removed the electronic circuit board from underneath our 283GTS and installed a spring return toggle switch in the propane compartment. Switch costs about $9 and existing wiring was long enough to reach. Problem solved.

After looking for hidden in-line fuses, etc., I gave up and cut the wires from the control box, ran a 10 gauge wire from the battery, bought this switch Amazon.com: 30 Amp Rocker Switch Polarity Reverse DC Motor Control: Automotive, added a 25 amp in-line fuse, drilled through the floor and mounted the switch next to the scare light switch in my Lexington 235.

It's a pretty simple switch and works like a charm. 4 quick connect terminals: power, ground, 2 for the motor (red and yellow wires).

A better solution would have been to replace the electric step with a manual one, but that would have required cutting and welding. I'll swear some features are added to RV's just to torture the owners.
