I finally made my first camping trip with the new truck and camper (3,300 Lbs.) setup a 3 - 4 hour trip with the first hour getting through the major metro urban sprawl traffic, then I towed at 65 MPH using 87 octane gas, as the terrain is mostly flat with a few minor inclines. With the bed full of camping supplies and 3 people, I was pleased to get 14.1 MPG. When the truck is empty and not towing I am in the 16-18 MPG range with the thirsty 5L. The tow haul mode worked well. It was boarder line hot, so I got to test out the camper AC. We had a nice full hookup sight at Daingerfield State Park, TX. A photo from our morning hike.

Of all the videos I saw none indicated the importance of putting the awning up before opening it which is required. The stereo didn't work, which I will investigate further before next month's trip. Any recommendations for where to purchase a 2" x 15' gray hose with fittings?

Nice spot! You have the advantage of having little frontal area to kill mileage, nice. I cringe seeing some of these 5th wheels with front of camper towing 2x the height of the truck, like towing a building. Nice spot! I thought most people just use a garden hose for those for a grey tank drain in pop ups.

Kris - even towing our hybrid is like towing a building. you are still dealing with a decent amount of frontal area.

normal highway = 21 mpg
towing the popup = 14 mpg
towing the hybrid = 8 mpg
all the same vehicle.

that does look like a really nice camping spot, glad you had a good outing.

I did this to my grey water drain and it works great. Drain the black tank, then the grey tank. I couldn't find fittings for the smaller size.

Are you sure your grey drain is 2"?
Most of those PUP's had a 1-1/2" screw on fitting.
You can get an adapter like this to convert to garden hose...
Valterra T01-0091VP Swivel Drain Connector - 90°, 1-1/2" x 3/4", Black

shopping

If it is 2" screw on... here's one that says it should fit.
275 330 IBC Tote Adapter, Food Grade IBC Drain Adapter,Water Hose Male Adapter for Garden Hose,2" Fine Thread X 3/4" Male G Hose

Thanks this looks like a good option, I will check the gray water pipe diameter size next week, my camper is stored at my Mom's about a half hour away, too many vehicles here and a somewhat steep driveway.

Fall is a great time to camp. I was out last week. Low was 26 here in Nevada. This time of year the kids are back in school and most experienced people are still getting out. There are some interesting people around and some full timers. I enjoyed watching wild horses herds.

The main problem this time of year is that all of the USFS campgrounds close now by sometime in Oct. Some used to be open all year. State parks stay open and some BLM sites. Mostly all I have available is boondocking. Our local forest camp site is closed due to a wild fire.

Agree, work week days are best. Here the weekends are booked multiple months in advance, as to me Spring and Fall are the only time to camp in the south, the summers are so oppressively hot.

You must have winterized already with the 26 degree low. I will after our last outing 11/22 or soon after. There was a burn ban when we visited this park, it has been raining some so hopefully that will be lifted before our 11/18-21 trip.
