Frt Door only opens 90

Hello, Our "new to us" 2015 Palomino Hybrid has a hydraulic front door, this lets the front door only open to 90 degrees. this seems like a little issue, especially with kids running in and out. I know its a great door for high windy days BUT---

What can I do to remedy this situation?
Does anyone have this type of door also?

I don’t know what your rig looks like, but is it possible that if the door went past 90 degrees, it might strike another object.....awning support arms, or slide out, or some attachment on the side of the rig?

Have a real good look and let us know what’s in the path of the door past 90 degrees.

It opens like that for a reason...

Probably, like already mentioned, would be in the way of an awning arm or some other thing.

I have that too...

It is a PITA, but I've learned to just live with it.

I used to have the gas shocks on mine. Took them both off and put the old style T latches on them. Just had to consider the placement of a 6" latch to clear a tilt out window. If you're not fighting the position of an awning arm it might be a possibility

This is exactly what I did, too. The door tended to flap in a light breeze as built.

Same but I used magnetic catches vs T-latches.

If you posted a pic of your door, it would help with suggestions.
I agree that it's to prevent it hitting or restricting something like the awning arm.
Since you don't mention the model number nor is it in your profile, we can't look at the floorplan.

The gas piston on my door had been removed by the previous owner and I replaced it. It keeps the door from hitting the awning arm and it keeps the door from blowing around in the wind as well. My door is wide enough so that we don't need to have it open farther than 90* and most of the time we leave it open and use the screen door to go in and out.

We had the same problem with our 2012 Flagstaff 5er and I just moved both of the gas strut anchors 2-1/2" closer to the hinge. Now the door opens to within 1" of the awning strut.

Depends on your rig.
My gas strut door had not obstructions so I removed the strut (mine just popped off the ball ends) and put on magnetic catches. Now it opens all the way back against the wall.


My only disappointment was the magnets were advertised to have 9 Lbs hold power.
I'd guess they're more like 2 or 3 Lbs.
Still enough unless it's really windy.

I wanted to use the 'T' latches, but the problem I had was once I got one long enough to hold the door where I wanted it, the 'T' wouldn't fit into the receptacle slot for it on the door...

Too much of an angle for it to fit in.

I wonder if a longer strut might do the trick?
