Fuel tank vent valve

I got a fuel tank cap message as I was driving thru New Mexico in my 2020 Georgetown Gt5 with 20,000 miles, which propagated into a check engine light. Took it to a Ford Comercial vehicle dealer here in Southern California and after diagnosis was told the vehicle had a broken fuel tank vent valve and it was not covered under warranty as it was broken. Valve is located on top of 80 gallon tank with only about 6 inches of clearance between the top of tank and floor of unit. Valve nipple was actually broken off at hose connection. As there was no debris or markings on tank I find it hard to believe an outside source caused the break.

My question to all you is, have you had the same or similar failure?

may have better luck looking at ford truck forums
the valve is probably used in a lot of different models

If you get it done under warranty... they just put the same crappy part in

if you pay... you can specify an upgraded aftermarket part (if one is available)

I had window problems with a Jeep... 12 times went back to the shop for same part to be replaced
when I complained.... they said, well it's free what ya complaining about

I was self employed and it would cost me half a day each time had to drop off and pick up the stupid thing

Thanks for your oppion.
I am trying to establish a record if failure for the part. I currently have the issue under review with Ford.

I'm late to the party, but replace the gas cap. I had the exact same issue. The seal around the fuel cap will shrink or get brittle over time and will not seal well.
Most auto stores will have a replacement for a F53 fuel cap.

I've never heard of it before. You'll have better luck asking over here: Ford Motorhome Chassis Forum - iRV2 Forums

Does that line that goes to the evaporative canister? The emissions warranty is 5 years or 50,000 miles. Are you still within five years of when the motorhome was first titled?

Yes, it's under the California emissions, but after review with Ford they said, " we rely on Dealers statement" no warranty as" something must have flown up above tank and broke valve without leaving any marks or damaging anything else." No warranty.

I, being an ASE Master Mechanic since 1974 disagree with this and am trying to compile information to reverse this decision.

Thanks anyway.

More likely is that Forest River hit the valve while adding the coach body. No one noticed....or cared enough to fix it then.

My GT7 rear axle was hitting the coach body work where FR had built a panel to cover hydraulic and electric lines. FR nor the dealer ( after being directed by FR to not take it in until Ford had looked at it) would consider this a problem. They blamed it all on Ford for having a suspension issue. I fixed it myself. It was NOT a Ford problem in any way.
