Generator exhaust beneath a slide out!

This is very dangerous and a Forrest River needs to address it. We have a 2023 Georgetown GT5. The dinette slide out is right above of the generator. The exhaust points 90 degrees outward toward the edge of the coach but when the slide is out, it puts exhaust right up into the coach. TERRIBLE design and sets off the CO monitor constantly.

Here is my fix hope it helps someone and maybe get FR to change the design.

Turn the kit 90 degrees toward the rear of the coach.
It pretty simple, some have a flange, others have a clamp.
I found a reducing adapter that slides right over the 1.25" pipe.

I had a local muffler shop bend a 7' pipe 1' from the end. This moved the exhaust about 6' toward the rear putting it 5" from the coach exhaust. This puts it between two slides and beyond the water access panel.

Now that the exhaust is out from under the slide it is much safer, I plan to install a vertical vent exhaust system later this week to make it even safer.

just my thoughts...
The longer the (closed pipe) exhaust pipe in pushing out the exhaust, the more restriction of exhaust flow. This could put some type of influence of the running of your generator and may even cause overheating.

There are some threads on the forum on this same topic of exhaust pipe under slideout that you may look at.

If you look at the size of the exhaust valve on typical RV generator engines you'll see that a 1" exhaust pipe is more than adequate, even with an extension like shown.

Restricted COOLING airflow around generator is a bigger issue.

Moved thread from the Slideouts sub-forum to the Motorhome section's Georgetown sub-forum since the OP's post is specific to a Georgetown product.
Also for better help from other Georgetown owners and possible factory support.

My 2006 Sunseeker 2860DS generator exhaust is similarly positioned. Exhaust only was noticeable once when there was a strong wind blowing into that side. C02 sensor has never gone off from it.

The generator exhaust on my 2014 Georgetown is beneath the living room slide with the sleeper sofa. I was concerned when we first got it also as we often spend 3 or 4 days at a race with the generator running and my nieces sleeping on the sofa pullout.
Just to be safe I put another CO2 detector on the wall above the sofa and never open the windows on that side of the MH.
10 years later and almost 2000 hrs on the generator I have never had a problem or had the CO2 alarm go off.

Makes me wonder if your slide seals are leaking somehow to let the exhaust back in.

I immediately saw the problem and don't ignore it like some.

I manufactured 2 extensions, 1 with a 90 degree bend and added a genturi. Many problems solved with this. I take it apart and stow it between uses. I also wrapped the exhaust to reduce heat from below.

Interesting mod. I bought the Genturi before I understood it did not fit in with my camping style of FHU or electric and water. Was a short time in my rving days where this would come in handy but it's one more thing to take out and put away.

I will run the generator while traveling for extra AC or during travel stops (lunch etc).

If your generator is turning full RPMs, the ehxaust is exiting the pipe at a very high velocity. Just go out there and feel it, you'll realize that it's mixing with the clear air out past your slide.
Do you really think RV builders are out to poison their customers ?

Absolutely through stupidity!

The slideout is perfectly sealed and there is enough horizontal force then vertical to keep your family safe. Great Thinking. I guess that is why most school tailgating events 100% requires a Genturi or you CAN NOT RUN YOUR GENERATOR there.

Genturis are required so your ehxaust gasses don't kill close by neighbors. By the 4th or 5th generator, the mix is getting stronger.

Btw, this is caused by FR using the same layout/ chassis design for all models. Depending on model purchased, there may or may not be a slide there or it may be in front or behind the slide. On sobe of us, it is just in tge wrong place for tge Floorplan and YES FR along with other manufacturers don't give a crap about their customers.

With the diesel pushers the generator is up front and not a factor - usually.
