Generator stops overnight

During a storm, we lost shore power on our 2019 FR3 DS33. We had just filled the gas and propane tank for the day before. So I pulled the plug out of the shore power, plugged it in the receptacle in the back and started the genny.
Everything came on, furnace and electric heater working.
At some point while we were asleep the genny turned off.
We drive for hours in the summer with it on to run the AC, never does this.
But both times we tried to run it overnight, it turned off.
Over 3/4 tank when we checked both times in the morning.
Any ideas why it turns off like this?

Just one thought. Oddly, these generators require their cover to be on for them to cool properly, so be sure that's on and seated correctly. If they get hot they shut off

I would expect that there would be an error code stored. I don't recall exactly how it's done, but there is a way to get it to flash the light on the starter button to give you the error code. From there you look up the code to see what caused it to shut down. Knowing that will get you that much closer to actually figuring out what the problem is.

Best of luck

Possibly low oil. Oil gets hot after a couple hours and foams up a bit, trips the sensor and shuts off.

Hmm that is an interesting idea. We ran the generator for several hours last summer while we were driving to keep the front AC going, and a couple of times it would just shut off. The first few times it started right back up, but after day three or so, it did not. Had to wait a few minutes. I did check the oil just before hand and it was at the proper level. I all ways thought it was a heat issue. We have not had a problem in several months now but it always ways on my mind.

There are many threads about generator issues. From overheating oil to Gas vapor lock. Seems to be several issues with the generators and many solutions. Good luck finding the right solution.

I suggest contact cummins and telling them about the symptoms. Maybe they can offer suggestions or possible reasons for the shutdowns.

This was happening to our friends during a trip this year while boondocking overnight in a cabelas parking lot.

We changed the oil and the issue was resolved.

I'm curious where you are camping. If your home is AL which I believe is sea level and you are somewhere at a higher altitude you might have to adjust the mixture. Or if you had adjusted the mixture for a higher elevation and returned to sea level (A much more likely event that happened to me). You change the mixture with a scale above the oil port.
