Where are the valve controls/hoses for bypassing the hot water tank in a 3040DS? Also, how to drain hot water tank?

To drain, Release any pressure in the tank by turning on a hot water faucet or release the 'Pressure relief valve on the outside behind access panel for WH. Unscrew plug on Anode Rod at the base of WH on outside...depending on manufacture of WH and water will drain. Valves are usually on the backside of WH with some kind of access from the inside.

Atwood heater, plastic plug at the outside bottom center. Suburban, anode rod same location. Valves should be on the back of the water heater. Mine you get to under the sink. Some have a panel to remove.

Mine's under the sink, there's a panel to remove, but it's easier to just remove the drawer.

Drain as they say, allow to cool, release pressure, then remove the plug at the bottom. Some might have an anode rod that needs replacing if it's totally worn down to the wire.

First turn off the electricity!!

Before you drain the water heater, FIRST TURN OFF THE ELECTRICITY!!

If it's a Suburban, the switch is on the outside at lower left, hidden behind the air tube.

If you don't turn that switch (or the circuit breaker inside) off, you will burn out the electric heating element, a nuisance that will cost you about $11 plus $3.50 more for the tool to replace it.

If you have a Surburban model and it has a serial number with an “E” in it you don’t have to worry about burning up the heat element with no water in the unit. Not supposed to happen.

Is this another Dealer Fail?

Didn't your dealer go over this with you?
Maybe you did not purchase from a dealer.

Where ever you got it someone should have gone over this with you.

Sorry but I do not have an answer as I do not have that model.

Good luck and happy camping
