We just bought our first camper, a Forest River V Cross Vibe 6504. We are very excited! We were planning on getting a tow hitch installed on our 2013 Chrysler Town and Country Touring, but we were just told that we need to get a different tow vehicle.

Welcome from New Jersey, Really don't think that poor Town &Country would have been up to the task, let alone safe .

Hi and welcome to FRF!
I think you're going to get a lot of "too much trailer for your T&C", including from me.
I'm assuming that it has a 3500 or 3800lbs towing capacity, along with a max hitch weight of 350-380lbs.
That trailer, when loaded for camping, will exceed both max numbers. Especially it being a single axle.
I'm guessing the dealer told you that infamous line "Sure, you can tow that with your minivan".[emoji32][emoji1786]

Have you looked at your T&C owners manual? What does the yellow sticker on the drivers door pillar say? You want the number in the line that reads "Combined Weight of Occupants and Cargo Should never Exceed xxxx Lbs." You need a weight distribution hitch with integrated anti-sway and a brake controller plus a 7-pin wiring connector.

Beyond that, I'm sorry to inform you that by the time you get the T&C and trailer loaded for camping, even without fresh water on board you will be grossly overloaded on all weight ratings for your Town & Country. Your T&C can tow a popup or a-frame camper. Anything larger will be too much.

Look at page 543 of the attached 2013 Chrysler Owners Manual.

BTW, the attached yellow sticker is for my wife's 2016 T&C Limited with tow package. The tow package only adds a larger transmission cooler and slightly more robust rear suspension, the brake controller, hitch receiver and wiring is not included unless you had your Chrysler dealer install them.

Every time this thread title pops up, I hear, “Hello! Wis-Con-Sin!!!” and picture four stoned teens in a 70s station wagon. I don’t know why.
