Hello, looking to learn!

Are you not going to provide the requested information on your Tacoma or are you considering a smaller and lighter trailer?
Just trying to figure out if you still want advice.
It was too cold to go outside today! I will when it’s above freezing.

Welcome to the forum! I own a Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S with a GVWR of 5800 pounds and tow it with a Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi engine. I would definitely NOT want to tow it with a Tacoma. Just not enough truck to safely tow. Suggestion: Use the 15-20% of the towing capacity of your truck rule when deciding what trailer to purchase. Example: if your truck is rated to 6000 lbs. towing, 6000 lbs. less 15-20% is somewhere around 4800 lbs. There are plenty of nice trailers in the 16-18 foot size that would fit that bill. They would also be a bit larger than your Casita and I would guess have more storage. Shop around and best of luck!

Check out the Rpod line and the Rockwood GeoPro/Flagstaff E-Pro lines. They are twin brands and are smaller versions of the MiniLite/MicroLite lines.
BUT be careful, most are single axle trailers which create heavier tongue weights than comparable tandem axle trailers.

Need more information on your Tacoma.
Year, engine, cab size, trim level and payload capacity from driver's door yellow Tires and Loading sticker. It'll say "Occupants and cargo should not exceed xxxxlbs".
I did photograph the door stickers, but I can’t find the hood release! I have opened the hood before, but it was last summer. And when the shop installed a brake controller they attached it over where I thought the release lever was. Ack! Anyway, I’m convinced I need to look for a smaller trailer. Thanks for your help.

Well, your Tacoma only has 1159lbs of payload capacity.
So the total of the trailer's loaded tongue weight, driver and passengers weights, WDH weight and truck cargo weight can't exceed that 1159 number.
BUT the Tacoma's hitch receiver will still be limited to probably 600lbs.
Every MiniLite/Microlite will have loaded tongue weights over that, even the smallest model.

Just to make it easy to rule out RV candidates.... Get your tow vehicles cargo capacity and determine what 70% of that is. Then look for trailers where the trailer gross vehicle weight (empty weight + trailer cargo capacity) * 0.15 is lower. If you meet or are very close, you can do a more in depth verification, but you are probably good to go.
FWIW, the Tacoma's are notorious for low RV capability. I tow a 7,000 lb Flagstaff Superlite with a Ford F-150 and am under all my weight limits.

Welcome to a very friendly forum!
I don’t understand “(empty weight+trailer cargo capacity) * 0.15 is lower”, do you mean trailers that are 15% lighter?

Hey, Y’all: I am Marilyn from Austin, and I want to upgrade my camping. I belong to a great group of women who camp throughout Texas, but my old (2000) Casita holds me back. I am interested in a Rockwood Mini or MicroLite to pull with my Tacoma (up to 5k pounds.)
Thanks for admitting me to this group.
We had a 1999 Casita 17' FD for many years. It was a joy to tow and to use. However, for the 2 of us, the sleeping arrangements, at our senior age, was difficult. One had to crawl over the other one for the nighttime trip. Sold it for more $$$ than we paid for it.

We now have a 2016 Wildwood X-Lite 253RLXL which we tow with a full size, factory tow equipped, pick up. Not suitable for your Tacoma. But we sure did enjoy the Casita.

Good luck on your hunt.

Bob
