Help Diagnosing Electrical Issue

Problem Found....... I think

Replacing the 50amp Breaker in the PC did not work. So, we began inspecting the wires and cords. Found a loose plastic nut where the main shore power cord connects and comes into the camper located on the inside of the camper in bathroom cabinet. Picture posted. After tightening this nut and turning on shore power, everything worked perfectly.

Could this have simply been the problem the whole time??? Such a simple thing we were not even aware to check for.

I want to say THANKS to every person who took the time to post responses. We have learned a lot through this process and now have a much better general understanding of the electrical workings of the camper thanks to each of you!

If I'm guessing, tightening the lockout may have pushed the cable and wires into a loose connection in the plug. Did you check the connections? Or it may have been enough to squeeze a compromised wire back together.

I agree with glen - if tightening that locknut fixed your symptoms, then you have a connection problem inside that plug housing that still needs to be fixed. If you don't fix it, this could cause a more serious problem (fire) when you try to pull high current through your shore connection to run something like the A/C.

Right now, the bad connection is barely being made and the movement from the locknut moved things slightly into place, but it still isn't a solid connection that can safely handle much current.

Totally agree with the above 2 posts

The black nut is only used to HOLD the large multi wire cable to the plug
You need to open up the plug and check each wire's connection.
Replace plug if you find any scorch marks

If you don't look at it...
a) poor connection can lead to damage to sensitive electronics / appliances
b) arcing / heating inside the plug plug can melt
c) melted plug can expose you to risk of electric shock..... if a wire is exposed
e) total Failure of the plug can occur , usually at the most inconvenient time !
