I have a Shasta 21’ camper with Atwood water heater which works fine with the propane but does not work at all when switched to electric
Can anyone recommend some trouble shooting please

I ran into this problem when I first got my travel trailer. For me, the solution was a switch located inside the outside access bay for the water heater. It just had to be turned on. After that, the water heater worked on electric.

At the very least, it is something you can check.

Hope this helps

It could also be a burned out electric element.
If the electric is turned on without water in the water heater, the electric element will burn out quickly.
Hopefully, it's just the switch.

Model number of the Atwood might be helpful.
First thing to check is the electric heating element.
Many owners turn on the electric side, without having water in the water heater, therefore frying the element.

As a former owner of an Atwood WH, as far as I know, Atwood don't have a switch on the WH itself, only Suburban water heaters.

None of the 3 Atwood water heaters i had, had an outside switch for the electric side, just the inside switch. (and two of those were on the electrical connection box on the backside of the tank.

To the OP... post the model number of YOUR water heater and you'll get more correct answers than general water heater suggestions because not all water heaters are the same in every R/V.

Also... do you own a multimeter and know how to use it? Most all electrical questions can be answered in 5 minutes of testing with a multimeter.
