Hurricane Evacuation from Eastern Shore, MD

Advice to 5picker. Please use some common sense. After Ian makes landfall today, it will become a rain event only. Kent Island is 800 miles away. I live close to the ocean and have been thru a dozen actual hurricanes. This will be a harmless rain storm.

Friday afternoon

Weather forecast here is rain through Monday. Gale warning into Saturday. Looks like heaviest rain will be more towards the ocean.

Nothing that to make do anything but be prepared. Grocery store here was mobbed as well as hardware store. Probably in response to hyped up TV weather reporting.right now it doesn’t look like much of an impact here.

Still waiting to hear from friends and family in Florida. One in St. Pete is OK, he didn’t mention any damage.

Niece in Greeneville, SC has yet to report.

Probably not a good time to venture out in the motorhome tonight. 🙂

I'm alive...
we made it through unscathed. Ended up hunkering down at our house
probably saw a gust or two over 30mph

We had tentative plan to evacuate inland to Myakka
that property got HIT with 120+ mph winds and a ton of rain
The owner had a trailer that was in a rain / wind shadow... it still moved about 2foot and bent the stabilizers

just goes to show.... path predictions have become fairly accurate

BUT nature still ends up doing the unexpected
Hurricane plans.... need to be flexible

WOW, good to hear. Seems like you were directed from above.

So far a big nothing here.

Lived in south carolina all my life, my personal hurricane category system
Cat 1 gets breezey ,make sure everything is taken care of and tied down, sit back and enjoy the day off.

Cat 2 tie it all down get a few hundred yards inland
Cat 3 get at least 7-30 miles inland and away from rivers etc
Cat 4 it's going to try to kill you
Cat 5 will kill you

Update

Well survived IAN. But truck 5er did not. 5er is on its side was in 3 ft water sort of like taking a bath.
Truck had 3 trees on it. After 5 days coast guard came an evac off island. Just got power last night. What a ordeal. But alive.

You were on Pine Island, right?
So sorry you had to go through that. Were you living in the 5er or in an apartment or home? Do you have any plans for the future? Sorry to be so nosy, but we're all concerned about you.
