Good evening everyone. I have not a question or advice but a little comedy. Especially for those who have dealt with it. So about six months ago my wife and I purchased our first travel trailer, a 2014 V-Cross Platinum. Now we really like the trailer. But, we purchased it knowing of two or three soft spots in the floor. Now with my experience as a general contractor and custom home remodeler, it was childs play. I opened up the floors and exposed the styrofoam sheet in between the luan covers. It was weaker than a styrofoam cooler from a roadside gas station. I replaced it with 2 x 12s on their sides. Problem solved! Now my wife decided she doesn’t like the fabric on the valances in the bedroom. So I have taken the task of removing the fabric from the valances myself. Lol. It has taken me the better part of an hour and half to get it off one. You’re kidding me right I can all but walk a literal hole in the floor but I need a sawsall to get fabric off a valance. Get it together Forest River

You ain’t seen nothing yet!!!!

They miss studs with their staples and the furniture falls apart.

They scrimp on the main steal frames. The hangers from the frames break.
No hitches can be installed.

New trailers come with batteries only good till midnight.

Tires that fail the first year.

Air conditioning only good for 90 degrees. Or less.

And much more.

Usually older units are tougher.

We had two covers fall off the fridge and water heater.

Let's see...
None of my furniture has fallen apart
I've had no issues with my steel frame
My tires lasted until last year (6 years, but I should have replaced at 5)
I've never had any AC issues, and it's a little warmer in TX than Ohio

Forest River didn't make your fridge or your water heater. My fridge did just fail a few months ago though, but that's Dometic's fault. So is the stupid Dometic 300 toilet I had to replace. I used both failures as opportunity to upgrade.

Why not just cover over the fabric that's on the valances, make new ones, or just get rid of them altogether?

Hi and Welcome to FRF.

As a contractor new the RV Industry, what you're complaining about is common throughout the RV Industry, not just Forest River.
The luan/foam sandwich flooring was quite common for years throughout the Industry, in most ultralight trailers, in order to lower weight. But many manufacturers have gone back to wood flooring, because of the kind of issues you've found.
Even sacred brands, like Airstream and Winnebago, have seen quality suffer over the past decade.
So what you've discovered, is old news to many of us.

Airstream - THOR. Don't get me started. If anyone has any complaint about a FR product, try owning a Thor.

@bikendan You'll know better than I will, but I believe it was at or maybe just before my 2018 model where they switched back to plywood floors. I know mine is plywood.

I understand that it has been around for years but why on Gods green earth do they allow seams in the luan to break in between the aluminum supports. Why not allow them to break over the supports. It creates an unsafe space to occupy moreover an unsafe tranportable vehicle. It allows the floors to flex in places that have no support.

I would love to get more info about how you fixed your soft floors. My 2011 Rockwood 2604 has the luan/styro/luan floors and they are very soft in some areas. I've been living with it, but it seems to get a little worse each year, and I may soon have to deal with it, or hang up camping. I'm getting too old for too difficult of a job.
