I'm wrecked

Thanks! We have a Bish's nearby that repairs them. The while awning has to come off before driving it. The awning fabric itself was even torn. The outdoor speakers damaged. It's a mess. It makes me so sad. I did feel the same way. At least it was at the end of the season and nobody was hurt.

I don't know where you are located, but you may want to call Allegiant RV Sales and Service, Middlebury ,Indiana 574-828-3303. Im from Massachusetts and I brought my motorhome there for repairs. I can't say enough good words about them . Excellent work. Highly reccomended. Call them

If they even hint at totaling it, say no thank you, and get it fixed yourself. It will likely be cheaper in the long run to simply not involve the insurance company in the first place... They are primarily in the business of collecting, not paying, unless it's a case of severe accident damage, or something catastrophic. New awnings don't cost all that much, as long as no structural damage exists, and any water leaks have been tended to, anything cosmetic can be lived with. Good luck with it, and don't let it get you down, it happens to us all.

Thanks! They are estimating $8500 damage and suggest using partner shop of Camping World. Will leave estimate open to ensure everything is repaired satisfactorily. So glad it wasn't totaled.

I feel very sorry for you. I did something similar this year tomorrow camper brand new. We were going into a campground and coming the other way was a big fifth wheel on the back of the F350 Dooley who’s taking up 2 3rd Ln. and he came Burling out, I had to swerve him and took out back of the awning and scraped a bunch of parts on the side of The trailer. First time in over 50 years of towing. I was sick.

Thanks for your comment 👍

Most Camping World locations have terrible reviews on service/repair.

Do yourself a favor and investigate before agreeing to taking it to the Camping World in your location!

I know, I've read bad reviews on here before.

By what is pictured, it looks like the damage was cause by scraping the eave of the house as opposed to scarping the entire side wall. The pictures appear to show the damage is superficial/cosmetic. It is quite possible that the awning attachments are still attached firmly and that the operating mechanisms can be straightened. Insurance would pay for new parts. Either way, It does not appear to be structural damage. Again, we are limited by pictures to assess the damage.

That is really not that bad. I am pretty sure they will repair. The wife was pulling out trailer back from Florida and got to close to the yellow concrete pump guard. 2 inch gouge from the front to the back. Insurance payed to fixed it. Everything there is repairable. Don't do it yourself, let the pros handle it

It was hitting the corner of the garage and getting caught on the gutter and downspout. It tore it all off the garage and part of the roof. The camper is scraped all the way through to the inside in some areas. We finally were able to pry the door open. The bankette was ripped away from the wall and the valance above the window and some trim on same wall into the bedroom. The electrical for the awning as well as the speakers and lights were torn apart and the hardware for the awning supports completely ripped out of the exterior paneling. There is a hole in the door as well as the RV Lock keypad mechanism no longer works as the deadbolt probably no longer lines up since the door hinges were ripped out a little too. It's quite a mess on close inspection.
I only posted some of the photos here. The adjuster saw all of it.

Thank you! It really broke me that it happened. Luckily my husband was sympathetic about it. We are both still learning "camper" stuff. He has never pulled it due to a traumatic brain injury so I was really scared he would loose what little of his mind he has left over it I'm scared if they total it we won't be lucky enough to find something as nice again for the money they give us. This was literally a steal when we got it.
You do not have to accept the first offer the insurance company offers for the repair. Hopefully you will get an adjuster that is thorough and fair and the first estimate is good. From my experience the first estimate is usually low. You can appeal and offer estimates for repairs from other repair shops than the ones that the insurance company use.

Also if the insurance company decides to total your trailer they will want to retain it, sell it to a company that either restores it or sell parts from it. You do not have to let them take the trailer, you can keep it yourself, it is yours, you are paying the insurance company to pay you directly for the damage . It is your choice to have it repaired, keep as is, or sell parts from it. If you decide to keep the trailer and it has been totaled you will not be able to insure it through the same insurance company.

I came VERY close to damaging mine recently. I had it parked in the street in front of my house. When I pulled away I turned the front wheels too sharply out away from the curb and misjudged how much the back of the trailer would turn the other direction and it actually hit my brick mailbox.

Fortunately, a friend was helping and he hollered STOP just in time. It also took some doing to get it away from the mailbox without causing damage. As it was, it was touching but did not actually damage it. I sure I hope I remember the lesson I learned

Just food for thought, if you use someone that your insurance recommends at least they have much more leverage if there is a problem. That is not to say I am recommending that. I once had the same situation with a car. I declined using the shop they recommended because I had a great relationship with the dealer I bought the car from.

I sometimes see RV's parked what looks like about 12" from the wall of a garage or house as I drive by. I always say "Yikles!" when I see someone parked so close to disaster. The phenomenon of "tail swing" can do a alot of damage to house or RV alike, so it's really not worth parking so close to anything. the longer the distance from your rear tires to the back of the vehicle, the more potential "tail swing" when your turn away from the obstruction. Once owning a Winnebago Tour with about 12 feet of tail (from tires to bumper) taught me to move away from structures (like gas pumps) very obliquely.

I still would like to hear from Carbert about hwat he did or is doing to get his trailer fixed. Did I miss something?

Have you looked into your home owners insurance policy to fix the damage? The damage was done ON Your Property (and not on the open road).... BY your garage (that you ran into, on your property)....

It may be possible that Home Owner policies may cover some of your repair costs to your unit. Different insurance policies have different 'riders'.

My wife worked for an insurance company for over 40years, in many positions and suggested to me to say, Do a little research, it may pay off to to ask.

Thanksl for the update. Can you share if the damages to trailer and home were more or less than you expected? You seemed pretty stressed when you first posted. Was the forum helpful to you at all?

So far, it is being covered by camper ins and homeowners ins. They said camping world will do all repairs as estimated. Even if once they tear things open they find more. Our ins will cover it all minus $500 deductible. Our homeowners will cover what camper ins. does not cover.
