Need some advice. This is my first time insuring a TT. Progressive (redirected through USAA) has quoted me $1400 a year on my new E Pro 19FBS. But it has all the bells and whistles. Does it make sense to get a cheaper rate by only getting minimal comp and collision and letting their vehicle cover the rest? It just seems extremely high. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Contact USAA by phone. While their web-site may have sent you to Progressive, they do insure non-motorized campers. I pay $100 a year for comprehensive, collision and towing with USAA, but that's with a $1,000 deductible. Long story short, I was also sent to Progressive, but when I later applied for an umbrella policy they said I needed to move all my policies to USAA. I said I thought you didn't insure campers and she said just trailers and 5th wheels. If they haven't fixed it yet, I guess they just don't want to insure too many campers.

Many factors go into insurance rates, like where you live, your age, claims history, etc, etc. but I think you are right, this quoted rate is too high. I would expect the rate to be about one tenth of what you were quoted. Shop around and get at least 5 quotes to compare.

Here is an update. I had 5 quotes that ranged from $1,000 a year to about $1,400 a year on a new 2020 19FBSS.

I called USAA as some of you said and they checked the state I live in and said no problem they could just add it to my current policy.

So the price through USAA is a whopping $210 a year to my current policy! Unbelievable! I was just about to pull the trigger and buy the Progressive.

Thanks to all for the help.

I recently added our new 2020 GeoPro 16BH to my Geico policy; total loss replacement with $500 deductible is $234/year extra (on top of my 3 vehicles).

$200 sounds much more reasonable than your previous quotes

Awesome, I added our new TT in October with USAA and pay a whopping $10.70 per six.

I would check your coverages paying 20 bucks a year. Doesn't sound like comp/collision coverage to me. But if it is then lucky you.

When in tow, TT is covered by auto policy. If broken into and stuff stolen, home policy covers. $20 per year covers when in storage.

A trailer of any kind is covered for only the liability coverage of the auto policy of the towing vehicle when it’s being towed. Not any physical damage coverage to the trailer in that situation, trailer has to be scheduled on the auto policy for that. As far as your homeowners coverage you’re right it would cover theft of personal property in the trailer, so long as the value doesn’t exceed 10% of the value of the personal property coverage on your homeowners policy. But the homeowners policy won’t cover the damage done to your trailer during the break in. And it won’t cover any damage to your trailer at all regardless of what the cause is.

Me and my wife just purchased a new e-pro E19FD our insurance is $240.00 a year with $100.00 deductible.from State farm insurance. I would shop around . Happy Camping. From South East PA

Chief,

So your trailer is not covered at all if you get in an accident you cause or you hit something with it, or you get in an accident caused by an uninsured motorist. Just so you know as Far stated only liability is covered and that only pays to others, not you.

I believe that you must compare apples to apples. Do all of you have replacement value? I have never been able to add my RV to an auto policy. They don't usually cover what I require. Compare a Good Sam RV policy to one added on to a auto policy. I pay $1,700 per year with Progressive and that was the lowest I could find. I paid about $66,000 for my fiver, 2018 Cardinal 3825 that had a MSRP of $114,000.
