Isata 3 - Fresh Water Tank - Full or Empty When Not Using?

Just finished sanitizing the fresh water tank for the 2nd time in the past year on our 24FW as I noticed the water had a very slight greenish tint to it when getting ready for a trip.

All good now after sanitizing but it got me wondering if it was better to leave the tank empty or full when not in use inbetween trips. I could see an argument either way.

Thanks for feedback...

I just leave what ever we don’t use in the tank. We don’t drink that water, I bring ro water from home. Only to shower and clean dishes.

Thanks. Thats what I used to do as well, but after my talk started to get a green tinge twice, I thought perhaps I should either fill it up completely or empty it upon my return from a trip.

Gave it a thorough bleaching for a couple of days and so hopefully that killed all the bacteria this time around once and for all. We just use ours for washing as well.

Stupid question but how do you get that or any other sanitizers into your tank without a gravity fill spout? If your FW fills via hose bib fitting and requires some pressure to fill, are you using a pump to get some of that into your tank?

Attach your filler hose to the camper, then, using a funnel, fill your hose with the proper amount of whatever sanitizer solution you choose, and attach it to the faucet.

Easy peasy.

Hi Dcastro,
Yes I use an external water pump connected to a couple of short hoses to pump in a bleach/water solution from a bucket into my tank and then fill the tank completely full by connecting a hose.

I also take this pump with me whenever I dry camp to add extra water to the tank from a bucket or water can.

I have always kept mine empty when not in use. I drain it on return home and leave the drain open. Before a trip I add a little bleach and water then drain and flush it. Never had a problem and I do drink it.
