Last trip

This probably our last trip. We haven’t been out for a year and we scheduled one last 8 day trip to Yucaipa Regional Park.

I’m 76 and my wife is 81 with considerable health problems. We have been camping since 1994 and have many many good memories.

We will keep the trailer as it makes a great guest house and given the high fire risk in CA it makes a great escape capsule if needed.

I’ll stay tuned, because you never know what the future holds.

I wish you well and its a tough decision to make as I know I had to give it up this year. Im 80 and had lost eye sight in one eye due to Glaucoma and it did not help that i lost DW 5 years ago. I met a lot a fiends long the way and have great memories of the wife and I traveling. I stick around as I mentioned my farewell to camping just to bug folks. Good for you to have kept it up this long!! I'm only 58 and when I go through ordeal of prepping for a trip, and/or winterizing/de-winterizing, doing maintenance, I always wonder how long I'll be able to keep this up. I'm thinking certainly not past 70. Goal is to live to 75. So I have 12 years of camping left! I'd better get busy.

Hard to imagine the day when the motohome has to go away. Today I turned 67 and thought this would be the last trip for the season but low and behold the weather is improving next week so maybe one more. This is my view from the picnic table at Smithville Lake, Smithville, MO. 35 degrees right now but it's going to get better.

Good Luck in whatever the future holds for you and your Mrs. Cherish the last trip, but even more so the lifetime of memories the two of you enjoyed in almost 30 years of RV'ing.

This year has been a difficult year for my wife and I because of the expenses incurred with our RV. It brought us to the question should we pack it in, because we are retired and do not have the financial ease to easily recoup the maintenance expenditures in excess of $12K. But, we love it too much to give up the lifestyle. Every time I turn on the computer or phone screen savers with pics of places we visited, reminds us we aren't ready yet.

I dread the day I will have to do it which may be closer than I think as I turn 79 in two weeks. I currently will be boondocking with my TT for about 5 days in a week and half by myself. (Self birthday present I have taken for over 50 years - deer hunting) Then middle of December DW and I leave for Florida getting home middle of April in our 5er. Last stop, Indianapolis for Total Eclipse.

I'm not in any hurry to quit camping but I do have an exit strategy because it won't last forever. Best of luck on your future endeavors.

FWIW - Actually building a site at my sticks and bricks location to use the TT (when we're done) as a guest house for family visitors in the future.

While not making new camping memories, I'll bet you have a lot of great ones you have already had.
I wish I had started 20 years ago and hope that I can still do this when I am in my 70s, but I know that one day I too will only have my memories. The circle of life applies to all that live long enough to see it.

An older retired good friend of mine that had been camping 30 years finally decided to give it up and sold everything when his wife could no longer climb the steps safely.
When I decided to buy my camper in '20, he was a great tutor to help me with problems that I had never even thought could happen.

So sorry you're going to have to give up camping. Hopefully you'll be able to do some traveling using hotels or cabins. Health problems are the reason many people have to give up camping. Glad you made some great memories.
