I am not sure if I should post this here. We are planning a trip to NC Outer banks. The road Trippers app seems to be routing us using the Lincoln Tunnel. I am telling the app I have propane on board. It seems you can't take 20lb tanks though that tunnel. Is this correct? Seems to be taking exit 17 for the tunnel. Route remains the same with and without propane selected in the app. I believe I can just go George Washington bridge but found the road trippers app confusing on the route choice.

Any input will be helpful.

Edited to read a bit better. I contacted support any they worked it out with me.

You said “It seems you can’t take 2 20lb tanks through that tunnel.”
Where did you source that information?
A lot of tunnels do NOT allow propane equipped vehicles to enter.
Verify before taking a tunnel route.
Watching for others who know for sure to chime in.

A quick google search gives you all kinds of sources saying that propane may not be transported through the Lincoln tunnel and several others in that area. Looks to apply to both RVs and commercial.

I should have said it differently, everything I read said you can't take it at all and I have 2 20lb tanks. My question is why is the app designed for RV routes and allows you to put in that you have propane give you directions though the tunnel? Seems crazy.

I know that my questions was why is the Road Trippers app giving the route taking the tunnel with propane on board. Seems crazy and many would trust the route as it even ask if you have propane.

Just remember that everything one reads and posts on the internet or other service may not be entirely accurate.

Try other routing services and see what they come up with.

I contacted them and they got back to me amazing quick. It is routed over the George Washington bridge. The exit to the Lincoln Tunnel was messing things up on my phone. I was told to open the desktop version and all is good now. Kudos to Road Trippers support.

Thanks to all who replied.

We might have been a little confused as to what you were asking since you started your post with ….
Not if I should post there here.

Sorry to confuse everyone. I typed it out fast on my phone, never a good combo.

I meant to say not sure if I should post this here vs a different thread. I edited the original post also.

The way I interpret the the Port Authority regulations, camper/RV propane tanks can be transported through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Quoted from the Port Authority;
"Division 2.1 or 2.2
Does a camper/RV meet the requirements for M.O.T?
*Not over 100kg (220 pounds) in a cylinder, or
*Not more than 70 gallon water capacity for non-liquefied Division 2.2 material with no subsidiary hazard in a permanently mounted tank manufactured to the ASME code."
Don't take my word for it though. Call the Port Authority and ask.

Good idea on calling the Port Authority. They will know for sure on what you can or can't transport through the tunnels.

Be safe -m :campfire:

I live in northern NJ. I would suggest you look at a westerly route from your home town, pick up I-84 to I-684 to I-287 to cross the Hudson at the Tappan Zee, then drop down the Garden State Parkway. It might be a little longer but I-95 through NYC can go nightmare in an instant.

Hello, I agree don't take 95 through NYC. Take the Tappan Zee. Check to be sure you can tow on the NJ Parkway. You can pickup 95/NJ turnpike and come south. Harry

Trailers are ok on tnpk. Restrictions start at 10000 lb trailers so OP is fine with his 15 footer

I'd stay away from 95 thru the NYC area. I had severe damage to my past camper due to the potholes through there. Do as advised above and take the Tappan Zee. Might be longer, but safer.

I agree with previous posts about avoiding the George Washing to Bridge. To put it as nicely as I can, the GW Bridge sucks! I always take the Tappan Zee...
