Heading to the mountains in October for some elk hunting. Since I will be hunting alone this year I thought I would pull my trailer in and boon-dock for a week and hope I don’t get snowed-in.
But I also just installed lithium batteries which is why I am still buying parts for my travel trailer-this time heat pads for the batteries.
I did a little research on brands of heat pads—my goal to find two pads that I can control from inside the coach and will match where and how I have my batteries mounted to save time and money.
Ended up with the Off Grid brand of heat pad with thermostats. I splice both battery pads together and am overriding the thermostat with an illuminating throw switch from Powerwerx.
One other thing that I modified was the Off Grid unit involves a thermal blanket that is sized for your battery (as is the price-mine was $149 per battery). It’s like a bag around your battery with an open top-I flipped mine over and cut holes for large grommets to service the terminals. I already had my batteries sitting in two inches of fitted foam so I didn’t want to cut the foam and believe the blanket over the top will actually be better with respect to temperature retention. I called the manufacturer and they reported it will work but need a way to connect the terminals-bingo!
I have a YouTube video of the install but got in trouble with the web site for attaching a link once (for reasons I still don’t quite understand). I just put ideas together to share-too dumb and retired to make money.
