Mondays at the tire shop

Well, as of now Bobby and I are in our glory. Tonight TNT had the first of the seasonal airing of "A Christmas Story"! :D:D:D
I triple dog dare you to say otherwise! :roflblack:

I have all the 22 inch ST tires anyone would ever need for $7.50 each. Send $7.50 + $30 shipping and handling to PO Box ...
Yep and I got some ocean front property in Arizona I'll sell ya.:roflblack: Later RJD

I saw that. They also aired the sequel, A Christmas Story Christmas.

Adult Ralphie isn't quite a good as kid Ralphie IMO, but it's still a fun movie. Good to see most of the original cast return.

Had a guy call up on the phone yesterday right at closing time. He wanted a price on 3 different sets of tires. I'm getting encouraged at this prospect.

I tell him I couldn't mount 3 sets of tires until this morning though. He then tells me he doesn't want them mounted as he can do it himself at his house. That's a red flag, so my encouragement started waning.

He then wants to pay with credit card over the phone. Red flag #2.

I tell him I have to have the credit card present and cannot take it over the phone. He says OK, then wants directions to my shop from the Red Roof Inn hotel.

I'm now defeated and have no hope. I tell him my credit card terminal has been batched out for the day and it will be tomorrow morning before I can process another transaction. This was a lie, but he started them.

He said he would be here in the morning......but he was not. I guess he got them elsewhere. Hopefully at AFAB.:D

Whats the scam? Stolen credit card, pickup tires - sells them privately, and the transaction gets canceled by credit card company? and he has cash from selling tires

There ya go, blowing yet another great business opportunity. The owner isn’t going to be happy!

Yes, that is exactly the scam. Most likely using a credit card number purchased with hundreds of others from a dark website. You dodged another bullet WMTIRE, which you seem very adept at doing.:trink39:

Just had a guy here in a Jeep Liberty. He is telling me how he does all his business here and was needing help getting his rear lug nuts off. I noticed several of them were rounded off, and messed up fairly bad. It was those type with the chrome veneers. I also noticed a new pair of Wal-mart only tires on the front of his Liberty.

I ask him how these lug nuts got messed up so bad and he tells me that he tried to take them off, but couldn't. I told him he should have brought them to me BEFORE he did all the damage. He said he only tried after Wal-Mart told him them couldn't get them off, so he was blaming them.

I wanted to say "But you said you do ALL your business with me", but did not. I tried a few tools I had for stuff like this but to no avail. I told him a mechanic place to take it to, and he asked if I thought they would charge him to do it.

I told him they probably would as that's what businesses do. I also realized he was little bit wonky in his thinking.....and came to a bigger epiphany that I was too, as he was wanting me to do it for free also with all that "I do all my business here" lies.

Hopefully we both gained a little more wisdom today.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. The cc will reverse the charges at a later date and take it back from my account whether it's a stolen cc, or if the owner of the CC disputes the charges.

You can have a willing participant do this, and dispute the charge, and get free tires to sell, use, give out. Most of the time it is stolen or used without permission (drugheads stealing a family members cc).

It was those type with the chrome veneers.

I used to work on/build offroad Jeeps as a hobby. I HATE those lug nuts. We had a name for them, but I can't think of what it was at the moment.

If you can get the veneer off, the nut that stays behind is a standard size, at least there's that.

When I was a retail manager I would have people come in demanding a refund when their son/daughter used their card without permission. I would say "no problem, just sign this form stating the card was taken and used without your permission. I will then file charges with the district attorney. " It was amazing how fast they changed their mind about filing a complaint!

Dang it, I hate when a joke gets spoiled. A State Trooper pulled over a vehicle in my driveway and I was going to show ya a security camera screenshot of it captioning the Bad Boys themes from "Cops".

However I found out that camera wasn't working, and it hasn't been recording since around 5:30 PM Sunday.

So jokes on me.

Okaaaay, I just had someone who probably should not be behind the wheel of a truck, or maybe even on roller skates. She was messed in the head.

She pulls up in an old toyota truck that looks like it's been sitting up for years. The aluminum rims are green from mold. She wanted the tires aired up. I tell her to pull in the bay. This became a lesson in futility. She cannot pull in and cannot get her truck lined up even halfway straight where she is not going to run into the sides of the bay door.

As I try to instruct her how to turn, she barks at me that "she is sick and (insert expletive here) tired of men telling her what to do, and she can do it her (insert expletive here) self.

Me eyes grew wide as that comment was enough for me, and I pointed out the coin-op air inflator at the store across the street. Told her "she could do it herself.......over there."

She had more than tire problems, and so needed help that I do not provide. I don't know what all disasters she may have had with the male species, but with that attitude, I can understand they may be self inflicted.

I usually have to marry them before I grow to dislike a woman, but she was an exception.

Is it time to admit. . .
Some things aren't going to change in our life times. . .
Ask the AFAB establishment for a stack of business cards . . .
And share a card with these "quality" customers.
Refer them to a place that truly values them. . . :roflblack:

What makes you think that store isn't referring customers like these to wmtire? Also the other stores that had them drop in on them first and decided that they didn't want them.

Wondering how else so many "wingnuts" like these end up in one place.

TitanMike. The way you explain makes clear sense . . . I never had a job in retail (although sometimes closer than I'd like) to get this experience.
Your post suggests a solution . . .
Wingnuts of a certain size must be tossed back into the pool until they "mature" into full size wingnuts . . . At that time they can be mounted onto tire studs and do something useful . . .
Wmtire . . . Your shop attracts some of the worst people . . . And that brings about your timely (and entertaining) episodes that you share with us . . . Now waiting for the next episode. Let's hope the boss doesn't get involved . . . : D
(Thank you TitanMike for sharing your inside pov)
