Mondays at the tire shop

I was picking with son in law today about grandson busting thru wall like old kool-aid commercial. So he starts sending me AI generated stuff using pics. I can't quit laughing. I see a new avatar in my future.

Awesome idea!! (lightening bolt)
And liked your share of Sheriff's tire acquisition caution . . . News like that is reported very differently up 'north of the border' . . . ; )
Eye opening!!

Had a guy quote a set of 10 ply rated tires for his half ton truck that evidently someone before him had changed the size on. He kept saying he couldn't afford those but then would shoot down any cheaper alternative you gave...like going back to OE size, ply, etc.

Kept saying he couldn't afford $900 tires and a $1300 truck note.

I got tired (literally) of his time wasting and sent him to AFAB. Am I evil for this?

Not evil, but rather smart enough to know THEY will be dealing with any problems this bonehead customer presents and also smart enough to realize the time you're wasting will just eat into any profit you might have made in the unlikely event you did make a sale to him.

Ever consider getting a "Chess Timer" to help limit the time wasted on guys like this?

Good Grief, my Monday is already in the dumper. There was an irate dude awaiting me when I arrived this morning. He was telling me how he had to take off work this morning to bring back this tire his wife bought from me Saturday that was flat the next day, and how the tire AND me weren't worth a crap (not actually word).

I try to explain to him that I'm wasn't open on Saturday, nor did I sell that tire. He then tells me I sure did sell it Saturday to his wife and I am lying. I assured him that there was definitely someone lying alright, but it wasn't me. I then pointed to the hours of operation sign in my window that says "CLOSED SATURDAY & SUNDAY"

I then tell him to get with his wife and find out where she really did buy the tire. He tells me again she got it here, and I was lying. This kind of set me off and I reiterated my previous statements but in my big boy voice.

I think my tone, may have made him rethink his confidence, so he called, I guess his wife. I could hear him asking where the place she got the tire from was. I then saw the smugness drain from his face. When he got off the phone, I am just staring at him, awaiting my apology. I even tried to help fast forward the situation and made the "gimme, gimme" motion with my fingers.

He didn't apologize, or even say anything, but just got back in his truck. I did add, also in my big boy voice, that "I knew he was sorry, even if he didn't say so".

He now stared at me for a moment, but backed up and drove off.

He left in the direction of the AFAB place, but that doesn't mean that's where he went. He also may have just been a scammer too.

I need to go to my joke websites, to help my mood.

I get multitudes of telemarketing phone calls each week, mainly from credit card processors. I usually cuss them out or just hang up on them. I just had a rather humorous interaction (at least to me) where the telemarketer hung up on me.

He called up asking for the person in charge of the merchant account (which is how they normally do).

I played dumb and asked him what a merchant account was. He said the credit card processor. I then stated we do not take credit cards. He came back with he has never heard of a legitimate business not taking credit cards.

I told him he had now and I was so glad to help him be smarter than he was than when he called me.

He paused for a sec and then asked if I was insulting him.

I now told him that he was getting smarter by the moment and before long would be educated enough to go out and get a real job instead of what he's doing now.

We have talked several times how these rent own tire companies have customers who are not too good at math. I just encountered yet another. He comes in here to price a set of tires, which were $390 out the door.

He then informs me how my competitor down the road is shaming me on tire prices....and how they are way cheaper than I am. He tells me they only want $18 dollars a week for a set of their tires. When I asked him how many weeks that was, he said 18 months. I just looked at him like he was a moron, which was all I could truthfully do. I didn't even attempt to show him the math (78 weeks X $18) as he probably wouldn't have understood it, but just said that sounded like a great deal.

perhaps you could help him find the calculator on his phone. $1400. 78 weeks? over 6 years to pay on tires

Yep, many of these "rent to own" customers are only concerned about whether they can afford the weekly rate. They never comprehend the big picture and never understand how deep the hole is getting dug.
