Mondays at the tire shop

Call back ….. have someone do it for you

This is the manager … the owner has just gone back outside to finish the weed whacking he started this mornimg

OK, I called him back and asked him what problems he encountered here. He tells me he pulled up this morning to ask the price on a set of tires and my guy told him he had to come back at 8 when the owner got here to get a price. He then says no problem as he just wanted to leave his number with my guy so I could call him back with a price.

I am biting my tongue, but then ask him what size tires he had and I could give him a price thinking I may possibly make a sale. He tells me now that I lost the sale due to my employee and he just wanted to let me know that he would not ever be buying tires from me.

I was just about to let it go and tell him I was sorry to hear that...then end this BS from him, when he went for broke and really hacked me off. He said my employee also cussed him out and he didn't appreciate that.

I can't hold back now. I tell him I heard he pulled up only wanting the air pressure checked in his tires, and was told we do not open till 8. I then added the part about him claiming to know me and be a friend of mine. He denies all this and then asks if I am calling him a liar.

I said No, but are you calling me one? He said he wasn't but he was calling my employee one.

This is when I broke. I told him I was the owner, manager, foreman, janitor, lawn crew, and was the one he talked to this morning, so I know he was full of "feces" (not actual word)...and one more thing, you can go.......[Click}. He hung up on me. All that prep work and he threw me a curve ball I wasn't expecting......maybe more like a bowling ball.

That Jack Daniels suggestion earlier is sounding better and better.

When I was in retail management I've handled disgruntled customers storm out and call back to report me, not realizing I was the one they was reporting. Their stories NEVER resembled reality.

Ever get the line - "The customer is always right!"

To which I've replied - "I haven't decided if I want you as my customer yet!"

I think I am about to dox this guy. Are ya in, if I do show his number? He has called twice this morning, but hangs up when I answer. He must think he is blocking his number however it is showing up, but with this caller ID name. It would be funny if it wasn't wasting my time. Maybe ya will get a chuckle.

sign him up to get calls from the various church groups and basically any solar scam under the sun

I know it might not be as much fun, but perhaps its time to let it go. Clearly the guy is fixated on this, has time, and is willing to waste it taunting an area business.

Whenever you have the opportunity to sign up for a free estimate for a new roof, or new siding, or any number of things. Just use that number. He'll never know why he has gotten the explosion in calls, but it would annoy the sh, er, stuff, out of him. Which is seemingly what he deserves as he is clearly just trying to annoy you at this point.

This was just absolutely horrible. This young man brought in a set of UTV tires on wheels that he had another set of tires he wanted swapped over on.

As much as I tried to explain, show, and teach him how to read...I believe it all fell on deaf ears.

His OE tires/rims are 25X9.50-12. The tires he purchased and wanted mounted are 25X12-9.

Trying to show him the rim diameter differences in the tires, was a lesson in futility.

It's like people want what they want...no matter if it's doable or not. They become deaf to any explanation that defeats their desire.

I sold a set of 5 wheels...15x10's. Those are pretty wide wheels, used for 15"x12" tires, for example..

These guys that showed up (individually) to buy them loved the looks of them so much, that when I asked them what size tires they planned to mount on them they pointed to the current tires on the vehicle that they arrived in...like 8" wide tires!

I tried to explain that those tires won't fit, etc....A couple of the guys finally gave up, but I think that it was that they just trusted what I said....not that they actually understood what I was saying. They just couldn't comprehend...or refused to.

When the final buyer showed up, he was a young father with 4 kids and his wife in their really beat up SUV. He was one of those guys that spent money that he clearly didn't have on things that he clearly didn't need.

I don't think that he understood me, either, but then again...I didn't understand him all that well, either. Screw it, I'm sick of trying. So, we jammed them in the SUV, all 4 kids in the back seat, everything jammed in there...

I figured that when he discovered that they didn't fit his tires, he could sell them to someone else.

I come across these situations when selling stuff quite a bit. From now, I should just keep my mouth shut and let the buyer beware!

Years ago, when my late wife was undergoing cancer treatment, we spent a lot of time in doctors. their waiting rooms had lots of magazines with postage-paid blow-in cards to start subscriptions that would change from a free period to a billed subscription unless the subscriber opted out. At the same time, the local newspaper exposed a spammer operation a few miles away. It had a couple of T-1s and was spamming thousands of emails a minute. The paper doxed the operator's name and neighborhood; it only took a few minutes to find his address in the online tax records.

I printed some name/address labels with his home address and put them on every card I harvested, nearly a dozen on each visit. He may have wondered why he was getting all those magazines. Not sure what he thought when the bills started showing up. It seemed like poetic justice to me: spam for the spammer.

Well, this thread may be coming to an end, cause according to the guy earlier this morning...I will not be working here once he talks to his good friend, the owner.

I came up here around 6:30 this A.M. to do weedwacking in the front of the shop and by the road before traffic got bad so I don't sling rocks onto vehicles. I hardly had gotten started good when I noticed a vehicle over at the coin operated air compressor in the convenience store parking lot across the road from me. I know this one is out of operation but I was hoping he wouldn't come over here, as I am not open nor have my air compressor even turned on. Ya probably have already figured out, I didn't get my wish.

While I was out by the money making drain, he pulled up to the closed bay door and starts honking his horn to get my attention. I walk over to him, who was sitting in his vehicle with the window down. He tells me he needs to check the air in his tires. I inform him we do not open till 8 and I am just up here trying to get the trimming done while it was cool and no traffic. He demands that I open up and check his air as he has places to be. I tell him again that we don't open till 8.

This is when he tells me he is friends with the owner (I am now trying to hold my laughter in) and I had better do what he says or I won't like the consequences. I do have to ask him what consequences could there be as I am curious.

He tells me I may not have a job when he talks to his buddy (the owner). I do chuckle at his BS, which I think upset him more. I now tell him the only reason I am even up here is the judge told me I could go to prison, get married, or work at a tire shop...but I now think going to prison would have been the better option instead of having to deal with people like him. This set him off.

He now angrily tells me I can kiss my job goodbye, cause he is going to get his friend to fire me. I'm still smiling/laughing. I actually now crank the trimmer back up and am about to walk away when he tells me he is serious. I look at him, while I'm still smiling, and inform he can wait till the owner gets here and to do his best as I had better things to do. I then ask him what is the owners name, you know your good friend.

He just says he doesn't have time for this feces (not real word), and backs up. He tries to scratch rocks with his tires as he pulls into the road but almost gets hit by another vehicle as he wasn't paying attention.

So when he gets with his good friend, who he doesn't know the name of (or apparently even what he looks like), I may not have any.more tire stories......but for some odd reason I believe I will. Do ya think I will?
A little late to this discussion but, you should have just told him that you don't have keys to the shop and my boss/owner will be here to open at 8am.
