Need Hitch Information for new 2109S

My wife and I bought a 2019 Rockwood Mini Lite 2019S and got away from the dealership without some information I needed for ordering an Anderson hitch for it.

1) I need the ball diameter, as the Anderson hitch has an integral ball

2) The frame member size (5", 6" etc) this measurement needs to be accurate to with in 1/8

3) Coupler height from ground with trailer level

Please do not go to any trouble measuring your trailer. If someone knows these measurements already from setting their own hitch up I would appreciate the information otherwise I can get it myself some time in the next few days.

I don't have an Anderson hitch but here are the measurements I just measured. (I use an Equalizer hitch)

24 3/4" from ground to top of hitch where ball will ride
2 5/16" ball
5 1/6" frame width

Another welcome to the club! I have the same camper (21FBRS) and an Andersen hitch. You have made a great choice and I think you’re going to love it. Both the hitch and the camper. We’ve been accessorizing our 2017 since we got it in fall 2017. Have fun!

We also have the Andersen Hitch for our 2506 - purchased last year. It is a great hitch and Andersen has SUPERB customer service! Just call them for info and they will walk you through any question or situation. (From experience!) The installation process is pretty straightforward, and the instructions are online, in case you want to study before the hitch itself arrives. (andersenhitches.com) The easy "hitch up / unhitch" process was what sold me initially, but the hitch works extremely well, too. Enjoy your travels.

I made a trip back to the dealer today for a few more measurements and observations. These aren't areas where Andersen can help you. You have to supply the information in order to select the correct parts within your hitch package.

The ground to inside of the hitch cup measurement differed from the number provided by Sahall. Perhaps his is raised for boondocking or it has higher profile tires.

Also this trailer is 1/2" into the range for Andersen's "raised brackets instead of the standard brackets. Their wording is "may" require... I opted for the kit with the standard 3, 4,5,6" bracket because the raised bracket only appears to offer about 1/4" of relief from potential contact with the ground. That seemed like a pretty remote possibility.

The final dimension you need comes from the height of the receiver on your tow vehicle to determine if you need the 4 or 8" rise / drop shank. The 4" works in my case. That, along with the 2 5/16" coupler size on the trailer adds up to the Andersen 3350 Hitch.

The one thing that I won't know until I install it is if the chains are long enough. They suggest that the frame brackets be installed at a point on the A frame approximately 27 to 29" from the center line of the ball cup of the coupler. That space is occupied by a welded in place mount for the LP tanks. The free space is two inches back from there. I think the standard chain length will likely work, but if not I will have to buy the chain extensions.

Regarding the Andersen hitch. Yeah, I decided on it before the trailer. I've had and older Reese with the ball platform welded to the shank and an add on friction anti sway. It got a thumbs down on it's first trip. After that came the Reese Dual Cam. Not bad but there is the popping noise and a bit of a pain to disconnect in some camp sites. At least I didn't require disconnecting anything in order to back up. The simplicity of hook up and disconnection drew me to the Anderson and the added benefits of self adjusting sway control and the no bounce properties and the reasonable price closed the deal. I think I could install it blind folded, so I'm looking forward to the hitch arriving and then installing it on my new trailer.

We bought the Anderson hitch 7 years ago for our first tt, a 21 foot Salem, when we sold that tt we kept the hitch and we installed it last summer on our new 2019 2109s. We did have to order taller brackets, but it is working perfectly on the new trailer, very happy with it.

I'm glad to hear another good report on the Andersen. Every thing I have read has been positive so far. Can't wait to try it.

When you say "taller brackets", do you mean for the larger frame size of the Rockwood or the brackets that are slightly higher off the ground?

The brackets for the taller frame size. The original ones were just a bit too short. We were just glad we could still utilize the hitch and didn’t have to buy a whole new setup.

Gene w, what measurement did you get to the top of the coupler for reference for others?

Mine was 18 1/2".

For anyone who doesn't know this, the purpose of this measurement prior to buying the hitch is to determine which shank you need to order, the 4 or 8". This number is compared to the measurement from the ground to the top, inside of the tow vehicle's receiver tube. The difference between the two measurements determines which shank to order. I ordered the 4" drop / rise.

So glad you posted that number. I was looking for a coupler height measurement on the 2109S or 21FBRS and not having much luck.
