Grabbed a screen shot from one of those Facebook video reels.
Supposed to be from a dash cam and I believe it. Only 5-6 seconds long.
What I can't believe is that the driver was unaware of his problem and didn't seem to be making any attempt to pull over and stop somewhere.

What would you do - stay way, way behind or hurry and pass before his rig flew apart?

I feel for the poor guy. I've been close to his situation where I've had my hydraulic slides fail to stay locked down due some type of hydraulic system failure. I've have caught it when the bedroom slide (always the first one to open and first one to close) started creeping out as we have traveled down the interstate.:eek:

I pulled over as far as I could on the shoulder of a busy highway to lock them down. I had to attempt to get them to lock down while pulled over at least a dozen times with cars and semi trucks whizzing by. It gets real kind of scary in daylight, I can't imagine what it would be like at night. Without an exit ramp available for miles I started to debate whether or not to drive to the next ramp though it was a good 10 miles down the road. Luckily I was able to get them to lock down.:nansplit:

The first time Orvan swapped out a couple of cylinders that seemed to be leaking, but after a couple of trips of staying in the problem came about again. He has seemed to finally able to correct the problem after changing out the control valve where you are able to prevent one or two of my slides from opening or closing while the rest open.

We haven't had the situation again since 2021, but I continually keep an eye on that bedroom slide as we travel down the road praying it's staying in. I think it is very likely that the hydraulics will fail again some time down the road as there are just too many components that can fail allowing them to open as you travel down the road.

I feel the person diving the rig in the picture is probably aware of their situation and doing their best to get to a safe place.

Be safe - :campfire:

Just got back from San Antonio nothing surprises' me.

Talked to several people over the years that claim to have forgotten to put slides in......... But this one probably couldn't get them in so decided to go for it.

Probably would call 911 getting their attention could get you shot these days....

:signhavefun:

That video/photo has been circulating a while. (couple years?)

If I recall, on one of the forums, they said the person was "supposedly" enroute to a dealer to get the slides repaired because they would not go in.

It looks like he might be aware of the problem already. If you notice, he's not in the middle of the lane. If he had been in the middle, the slides would be intruding into the lane on the left.
Most likely he's headed to a repair shop. Might be something that couldn't be repaired in the field.

Like others, I’ve seen this exact video several times.
When you see this type of video submission …..they don’t post the date and time, so it can make the rounds making you think it just happened.
Regardless of why……(forgot or broken) it’s illegal.

Be careful out there.
