P-traps

I have a 2020 Cedar Creek Hathaway Edition 34IK 5th wheel. My bathroom sinks and my shower have no p-traps, and I can't see any in the plumbing visible from the basement. Is not having p-traps normal or was it a mistake by the factory?

there is a style that is like a valve with a plastic flap to stop return odors
Can't think of the name for this style

Some showers have a inspection plate straight under the shower floor... look in there.

I'm sure you have something, or you would have been driven out by the smell from the holding tanks by now. either the traps are hidden from view, or they have used something else in its place.
Sometimes I have seen drum traps used where there is a low amount of fall from the shower floor to the tank top. [drum traps take up less space]. DR

After an Internet search it appears the white pipes are HepvO Sanitary Waste Valves. Does anyone have any pro/con feedback regarding these valves?

This is almost like inventing a "better mousetrap". P Traps have worked fine for over a century. Why the change?

There is insufficient room for a common P trap under showers and other fixtures in RVs.

And P-traps will slosh on the road and drain the water thus opening the plumbing to sewer gases. If you have P-traps (I do) there are screw in sink and shower strainer/stoppers to minimize this and seal off the sewage tanks. These little baskets are not just to keep peas (or rings!) from going down the drain. Common RV part if yours are missing.

Interesting.
I've not heard that advice before on a HepvO.
In fact, that is all I've heard that is recommended.

It is well documented not to use a "snake" as damage can occur to the inner membrane.

HepvO's website recommends they are capable of withstanding 80-100 PSI Blow-out pressure so where would the harm come from using a plunger?

The Hepvo trap utilizes very flexible rubber tubing which allows grey water to pass through and then collapses once the water flow stops.

Using a plunger in the normal down/up manner can cause the tubing to pull back into the housing, blocking the flow.

A plunger can be used if needed. Simply plunge downward and then release the cup to avoid drawing the tubing backwards.

We had two in our last 5th wheel we had for 6 years without maintenance replacement. Our 2022 has them as well and I have no plans to replace them for maintenance reasons. In fact, we've had no issues with them at all.

I have them on my kitchen sink and there must be one under bathtub, no room there for a p-trap. Starting 6th year trouble free. I didn't realize it until I did a kitchen sink remodel. Had to replace one in kitchen because idiot who installed mine at factory crossthreaded it and ruined it (had to re-arrange drain plumbing for new sink).


So now I only need to put antifreeze in bathroom sink drain and toilet bowl when winterizing.

We have a 2018 we bought used in 2020 and noticed sewer smell when using the bathroom sinks. Check into it and found the Hepvo was not closing properly. Took it out and looked at it and found the rubber duckbill device was damaged somehow had a slight tear in the lip. Ordered a new one and all has been good since.

Is your HepvO installed horizontally and located behind a piece of flexible plywood that is removed to access the valve?

Yes it was. I had to remove the drawers to gain access as our unit has double sinks and the one HEPVO is used for both drains. The left side is a straight pipe over to the right pipe and then down to the HEPVO and the side and then under to the access area.
