PSA: check your roofs

Just brought the new trailer home and thought to check the roof for possible leak points. Sure enough I found several doosies; exposed staples and open bubbles at the seam caulking. Please check your factory fresh rigs to prevent water intrusion from day one. My mistake I did not check the roof at our initial walk through at the dealer. Easy enough to fix with some Dicor Self Leveling in the driveway.

Agreed. My PDI tech was surprised I got on the roof and under the rig during our walk-through. And trust me, I hate getting up there.

I definitely found a few places that needed Dicor to be reapplied.

Good point to check under the rig for leak points. What should I look for, being all black under there it may be harder to see issues.
Thanks

Find the lowest points (2 or 3 of them) and carefully drill a 1/4" hole. Later, look for wet spots under them.

Wow! That's disappointing but a good catch.

I too got on the roof WITH the dealer during the PDI/Customer Orientation and had them correct anything I thought suspicious. They had already had it pretty good shape when we got up there. Just an antenna coax penetration point I had concerns with was all.

This made me go give my roof a once over, and I found this gaping hole!

Can I just cover this with self-leveling Dicor?Screenshot_20210429-173332.jpeg

I’ve been fighting this last 2 years. This the the 4th screw coming up through roof!?

WOW!

Good you caught that.

Yes self-leveling Dicor, if that meets the standards for your make of roof membrane.

You could also use Eternabond or Alpha-Bond type tape, depending on your roof membrane.

This is how I fixed my front cap/roof seam. Eternabond tape. Did this to my prior camper 1st thing. Due to Heath issues took me a couple of years to do on this one. Should be worry free now

That's terrible! It never should have left the factory like that! Quality Control is non existent with a lot of RV manufactures today

1st two pics is what it looked like,3rd pic is in middle of me fixing. Last pics are finished.

Quick question did you remove any of the front cap seal mess before applying the tape? Our front cap seal looks like they applied it then immediately went on the road at 80mph to get as many ripples and bumps as possible in it! :roflblack:

That was third pic. I removed all decor on fiberglass cap up to the retaining strip. Then applied over decor on strip, and roof membrane ending on just roof membrane. If any work would need to be done would cut at retaining strip peal back the decor under tape and peal back. That will only be if a new roof membrane is needed.

How long has that hole been there? I'd be concern if rain has got into there that you might have a mold problem. Have you check the walls and frame to see if its been leaking all the way down. Covering it up until its been dried out or check could cause you bigger problems.

Roof

What brand is this. I bought a keystone passport 2021 and found a bunch of bubbles. Was told by keystone it was not a problem, but considering the other issues I've found not sure I believe them.
I will never buy another keystone
