We have a Salem 26tbud camping trailer. We are looking for a 4-bike rack for the rear of the camper. Any inexpensive, dependable recommendations?

you need to do some reading about bikes on the back bumpers of TT's, because it's not generally advised, ESPECIALLY a 4-bike rack system.

does your Salem have a factory installed receiver?

if not, installing one on the bumper or welding it on the frame, will void the frame's warranty unless it's already expired.

search any RV forum on bike racks on rear bumpers and see for yourself.

Throwing the first cautionary tale out there - a buddy of mine drug 3 or 4 bikes down the road with a rack that mounted to his bumper.

If you're going to do it, you need to really beef the area up with welding and Dan's right- it voids your frame warranty.

My 2-3 bikes and toddler-sized trike ride inside our fifth wheel.

We have a beefed up receiver on ours and still don't carry a bike rack. Ours have traveled snugly, and safely, inside our camper with no issues at all.

I use a two bike rack for $40 that mounts on the ladder. The bumpers generally have a 100# limit but the torque with a bumper rack with 4 bikes would be prohibited.

4 bikes might be more suitable on the tow vehicle either over the bed or roof if it's a king cab and long enough. Not inexpensive.

As said, I have carried them inside without a problem as long as they were secured.

Agree on the not recommended

This past weekend while travelling down the 401 a mountain bike was seen just laying on the road and vehicles had to swerve around it. After reading similar horror stories on the forums we chose not to put a bike rack on the back of the camper.

We instead bought a rack that would go on top of a car. However since we have a truck we installed the rack on a couple of 1 x 6 boards and the frame sits in the bed of the truck. The bikes ride fine and we can see them so know they are safe.

I did go to a bike shop looking for a rack that would go in the truck bed. Seems they make lots of racks but not one for the back of the truck.

Good luck. :)

You can add a front mount receiver to your tow vehicle also.

I carry 4 bikes on a front mounted Thule 4 bike rack.

There is a company in Quebec that makes A-frame and front mounted racks for 5th wheels. Arvika - Home hope this helps. Note, they are not inexpensive but well built.

Fyi if its in warranty.
