RVing to Newfoundland

Episode 12 of 14 went live this afternoon . . . as someone who has come from away as an unexpected guest and experienced Newfoundland's hospitality first hand, it struck a cord. We are now planning to visit this summer . . . time to say thankyou in person . . .

Creedmore, That must have been an incredible experience …Im sure you’ll be welcomed back with open arms.

Oh wow what a trip. Too bad I do not know you I would have had you bring a Newfoundland dog back for me. Flying is unreal now a days. .
Anyone else planning on going to Newfoundland please let me know :) thanks

I've been a bit remiss updating this thread with the latest episodes. Here's a link to Episode 12 Creedmore was speaking about on the communities of Dildo (yes, that's the town's name) and Gander, the Newfoundland town of 9000 who took in 7000 travellers when North American airspace was closed after the horrific attacks of 9/11.

On Episode 9 we headed to Bonavista Newfoundland. This was without a doubt one of our favorite places on the trip. There's so much history...and the puffins...adorable.

In Episode 10 we headed to St Vincent's beach for a truly remarkable experience...Humpback whales swimming and feeding just feet away...it genuinely was magical. We also hiked one of Newfoundlands prettiest trails, the Chance Cove Coastal Trail. Hope you enjoy!

On Episode 11 we headed to St John's, Newfoundland's historic and colourful capital. We visited the quaint and charming neighbourhoods of Quidi Vidi (and sample the beer at Quidi Vidi Brewery), Jelly Bean Row and The Battery. We also visited two amazing National Historic Sites, Signal Hill and Cape Spear - North America's most easterly point (except for Greenland of course). We also hopped a ferry to nearby Bell Island and headed underground on a fascinating tour of Bell Island's Number 2 iron ore mine... and we also visited The Rooms - St. John's incredible museum and art gallery. And for our fellow campers / RVers there's a quick tour of Pippy Park Campground - our base for exploring the St. John's area.

True North,
We’ve been watching each episode over again, but this time with a pencil and pad handy. Writing down all of your tips will help a lot for planning purposes.
We don’t usually travel with hard and fast reservations or an itinerary for that matter. . .we'll need a good practical plan for this trip.

On this episode we head to Deer Lake RV park for a couple of days of R&R after 52 days on the road. We were a little surprised when our dinner was interrupted by an air raid siren!
From Deer Lake we headed to Port au Port and visited the beautiful Our Lady of Mercy Heritage Church. The church, Newfoundland’s largest wooden structure, opened in 1925. It was built by local fishermen, farmers and miners and the ceiling is constructed the same way they would have built the hull of a schooner. In essence, the ceiling is an upside-down boat.
From the church we made a quick stop at Secret Cove Brewery and drove through Stephenville and the decommissioned Ernest Harmon US Air Force Base, before making it to Grand Codroy RV Camping Park. This was perhaps the nicest private campground we stayed at in Newfoundland.
We spent our last couple of days on 'The Rock' exploring, including a visit to the Rose Blanche Lighthouse. It, just like the town it protected, was incredibly picturesque. This was a truly beautiful area and we were glad we made the effort to visit Rose Blanche.
The day before our ferry crossing we got a call from Marine Atlantic changing our sailing and check-in times. This was going to make for a VERY early day so we decided to get a bit closer to Port au Basque (the ferry terminal) and spent the last night in Newfoundland boondocking in Wreckhouse.
It was July 17th when we boarded the MV Highlanders and sailed back to North Sydney Nova Scotia. There we spent a night at the Arm of Gold Campground – the closest RV Park to the ferry terminal.
Hope you enjoy the video!

The Best of Newfoundland!

In this, the final episode of our RVing to Newfoundland and Labrador Series, we provide a travel guide to our absolute favourite Destinations, Tours/Excursions, Campgrounds (and boondocking spots), Historic Sites and Attractions that are FREE! There's even a bonus section for our Top Sunsets.
Do keep in mind that these are our favorites but we recognize not everyone shares our interests or appreciations and of course we didn't do everything or go everywhere - these selections are simply honest opinions based on our experiences in Newfoundland.
If you are an RVer/camper/traveller headed for Newfoundland and Labrador we hope these 14 Episodes are entertaining, interesting and helpful - it's why we create them! And please feel free to share them with your fellow travellers.

Thank you very much for this excellent series on your trip! I'm sure it must have been a tremendous amount of work, not only to document it, but in editing probably hundreds of hours down into the final product. We're planning to leave Kalispell, MT in a few days and will be spending 2 months touring the island. Your series has been perfect for our planning purposes.

Heading out to St Mary MT in September from Connecticut. You will have quite a long trip. Enjoy the area around the Cabot Trail if you can. Enjoy Newfoundland.
