Selling 5er, what to do with all the upgrades?

So, we have made the decision to sell the 5er. It has so many upgrades and mods and I'm not sure they will all enhance the sale price.

1. Entertainment system: I replaced the Westinghous 50" TV with a nice OLED with a full 5.1 surround system. I think I am going to put the original TV back in.

2. I have a seriously awesome solar setup with lots of batteries. Cost $10k, but not sure how much/ if any that would impact sales price. No interest in removing it, just wondering if I could ask more because it's there.

3. I have a GenY gooseneck hitch that's awesome. I still have the original basic 5er hitch I could back in. Could sell the GenY as an add-on maybe?

4. I have Starlink installed on the roof. I could pull the dish and the hookup will be there. If the new owner wants to put a Starlink dish up there, they would have to order the case I bought for mine. Easier to just transfer the dish to them. But not everyone wants Starlink.

Appreciate your thoughts. Dealers are asking $45k on RVTrader for my year/make/model. If my trailer were completely stock, I would probably ask $39k and take $35k. Not sure any of my upgrades would allow me to ask more because folks would just never look at mine because of a seemingly high asking price. Maybe I should just strip it back to completely stock and keep all the goodies for the next camper.

The upgrades you mention can be moved to a new RV if that is what you are going to do (buy a new RV). Otherwise, let it go unless a friend can use them.

The only upgrade I would pay extra for when looking at used RVs is the solar/battery setup if it was done well.

Sell it "as is". The prospective buyer may or may not want the upgrades. What are you planning to do with the upgrades you pull out? Sell them for a few $ on the $$$. Just depends on how much more you want to invest in the 5er in terms of pulling the upgrades. Remember TIM? Time Is Money. Nah, sell it as is.

This, unless you want to rebuy everything. Or, sell as is if you want to upgrade the mods you feel you need.

Other folks (especially dealers) will never pay much for extras you added. Also, the amount a buyer can finance is restricted to the original options in most cases.

are you planning on getting another or selling stuff separate
In a hurry to sell?

ask for MORE $$$$ on the 5th wheel with the MODS included
you can always take them OFF later if there is no interest

To attract buyer at the higher price point
a) Headline ... Boondockers Special Camp anywhere
$10,000 solar and inverter upgrade

b) Body of advert ...
sad to be selling our treasured 5th wheel that has taken us to so many wonderful places
So many Upgrades Includes 50" TV and surround sound .... You can drown out the noisy babbling brook and wildlife noises

ASK HIGH $$$$ .... you can always lower the price if no buyers
price is correct when you find a buyer and make the deal...

IF you intend to buy another RV......... that you can install the stuff on be prepared to FIX any holes in the roof so it looks professional

I will not remove any of the solar, battery, inverter gear. So much work and the system is so sweet. If I can't get a premium for it, I knew that going into the upgrade. But maybe someone chooses my 5er at a fair price with a pro solar setup over a stock one. Between that and the power reel for the shore power cord, I think I'll have the buyer wanting to pay a premium :)

Would there be an advantage for someone wanting to buy that particular model of 5er from a dealership vs. buying from you? Warranty, maybe (however upholding that is...)?

If there isn't an advantage, ask what the dealerships are asking and settle from there.

This situation is not much different from other things that people sell....like classic/ customized cars, for instance. The investment of the build is typically not recovered in the sale.

I removed all the gear in the 5er today (sheets, pillows, pantry stuff, pots and pans). Pretty normal amount of stuff but I had three x 96 gallon garbage bags full of sheets, pillows, towels, and other misc linens. We had one bed, for goodness sake, why did we need 200 lbs of linens?

We don't want to keep any of it, but it sure looks impressive when it is empty. I think I will offer any buyer to stop by my house and pick out whatever they want that we took off for free. We don't want to keep any of it, so if the buyer doesn't want it, it will go to Goodwill.

Everyone and their needs are different. I have found over the years I will buy something that has never been modified over a modified item. I do pay less for a modified trailer or vehicle as I have found more often than not the mods are not needed or put on incorrectly so end up costing me more.

Not saying that is the case with your camper but just my 2 cents of buying trailers and vehicles over the past 50 years............... So I would pay more for a stock trailer that has been never modified sorry just me.

Good Luck !

X2 on everyone's needs are different... like the shore power cord reel mentioned in post #6.
That was the very 1st thing I removed from my current 5th wheel. It was located in the way of the basement storage and took up too much room to offset any convenience. It's been laying on my shop floor for 2 years and the motor made one trip out... to remove the cable.
It would be no selling point for me and wasn't when we bought our 5th wheel.

The shore power reel is my favorite mod.

And there you go... everyone's favorite things are different. That's why there's chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Not everyone likes the same thing and why some would pay "extra" for that mod and some, it wouldn't matter. My point?... you asked about whether YOUR mods would add selling price and the answer is... "maybe"... to the right person.

Same goes with the television upgrade you mentioned... some folks could care less whether a R/V has a tv. We camp with 2 sets of folks who literally, have never turned on their tv while we were camping. They wouldn't care what tv it came with.

I've almost got it back to stock except for the solar/battery/inverter setup. I agree that none of it will add value so I am going to ask $42k ($3k below dealer prices for the same trailer with no mods) and I'll take less. Then they can have all the extra stuff for free if they want it.

Can I ask... are you leaving the R/Ving world? I'd believe some of that could be used on another R/V.

I don't see how you can think that $10K worth of solar and battery does not add to the resale
If it works It would be a great selling point.

people are paying crazy amounts for a 200w upgrade...
