Hi all,

I am just looking for anyone who has done this before or if it is something to avoid. I am selling my MBS 2401WS which I have listed on RV Trader and several other places. I have had several RV dealers call and offer to buy since it is only 2yrs old with only 10k miles. I know the RV places are legit and I know the price offers are mostly wholesale offers (about $8k lower than what I would let it go for privately). I would rather lose a bit more on the sale than have it sit for another year unused. Any opinions out there? Thanks in advance.

I did this several years ago with a 1-year-old travel trailer during the pandemic when prices were high. I actually got a decent offer to buy mine from ... wait for it ... Camping World, dropped it off the next day, and had my check in the mail 3 days later. I figured that I could have gotten about $4,000 - $5,000 more by doing a private sale, but wanted it gone asap. Under similar circumstances, I'd do it again.

It's like with anything, there are pros and cons.

Some of the pros are you'll sell it fast, you'll get a check fast, you don't have to deal with multiple showings to multiple people.

The biggest con is that you'll definitely sell it for less money than a private buyer.

Thanks for the answers, I really don’t want it to sit around unused for a year and I would rather not deal with spam stuff and people low balling me. RV ‘s are not money makers… I think I will sell it this way and walk away.

RV trader my not be the best place to sell . I sold my 7 yrs old TH on FB marketplace in 5 days for what i paid for it in 2015 . i would give other places a try and if nothing happens in a few weeks then you can settle for a greater loss and sale to a dealer .

Mr.m

I have it listed on RV Trader, craigslist, and Facebook. Not going to lie but the offer is exactly what I paid 2yrs ago just before pandemic hit. So I am out taxes and 2yrs of relatively low payments….. which to me seems fair. Only owe a small amount on so I’m not upside down either.

I put a 2020 trailer on consignment with an RV dealership. They sold it for $2500 more than I paid for it new less than a year and a half earlier. I paid a $450 consignment fee and pocketed $2050 more than I paid for it new.

I just basically wanted to know if anyone else had done it before and if it was a legitimate thing… I have had a few different RV’s just never had some random dealer call up wanting to buy one from me. Thanks.

Pretty new thing. When COVID came along, people wanted a safe, isolated way to get out of the house, but the supply chains and production lines were crippled. Shortages ensued and prices shot up. Dealers were calling recent prior customers and offering to buy back units for more than they were sold for, because they knew they could mark them up further and still make quick sales. You are on the tail end of that "tulip boom."

My friend had his on consignment for a year considered it free storage. A week later possibly two big hail storm hit. Beat every trl on the consignment lot to crap including his old trl. New customer was getting 5th wheel hitch installed in his truck. They called hoping he still had insurance on trl new owner paid cash and hadn’t gotten insurance yet since he couldn’t tow it. Friend paid about $700 in insurance while it just set there, dropped the price several times before selling

Last year we were buying a new Travel Trailer and wanted to either trade in or sell our outgoing one year old trailer. Our dealer would take it as a trade. But they also did consignment sales. They gave us a trade in quote but said they would sell it on consignment for a fixed fee of $3500. Even with the fee we figured we would come out ahead on the consignment. We gave him a minimum price and freedom to negotiate down to that minimum, with him required to call us before accepting a lower offer. After about 2 months, he got us about $2K above our minimum which was actually more than we had paid him for it new. Prices had gone up a lot and our 1 year old 2021 like new trailer was still cheaper than the ear identical new 2022's he had on his lot.

Now, presumably we could have sold it ourselves and saved the fee. But, the dealer handled showing it and ha died all the associated paperwork for us. So it was a lot easier. It also had the advantage of having our used one looking pretty good vs a new one to those browsing the lot. Anyway, it's an alternative to selling it to the dealer that worked out well for us.
